AKL for arrival evening -- What's to see/do there?

Hello folks!

I am planning my summer trip and am thinking of making a dinner PS at Boma on the first day of our arrival (Friday). Rather than go to the parks, I thought we'd relax a bit, have a low-key evening, eat dinner at Boma, and explore the AKL. Is there anything special that happens at AKL in the evening? We are a group of 4 adults, boy-8, girl-8, girl-2.

We have never been to AKL but the pictures are beautiful and the Boma reviews are very positive. We have cars so driving to the resort and back to our rooms at the POR-FQ should not be a problem.

There is a nice seating area where you can watch animals and also a firepit where sometimes they tell stories.

They also sometimes have things for the kids to do, though I'm not sure if that's only for resort guests or not. If all else fails, there's some pretty comfortable couches with TVs in the main seating area. We don't have kids, so I'm afraid I didn't pay a lot of attention as to what there was to do with kids when we were there.
