AKL Experts.....

My knowledge of AKL is very limited... so I need some help! My mother-in-law is staying at AKL next month... would Zebra Trail be a good request? I read through the FAQ and it seemed to be a good choice. Also, which savannah do you see from Zebra Trail?? I find the resort map very confusing. I can't figure out which trails overlook which savannahs.

Also... is the main level the second floor?

Oh, and which floor is best for a 3 year old to view the animals? A lower floor? Or higher?

Thanks for the help! I'm excited to finally see AKL for the first time. We are going to have dinner with MIL the first night.

The Zebra Trail is the Best. The Ostrich, Kudu, and Zebra trails overlook savannahs.

I like the Zebra trail (where I stayed while there) because of the proximity to the pool, and the Quick Service restaurant Mara.
Mara is where you buy the refillable mugs, and where you go to refill them. Mara is next to the pool.

I stayed on the third floor while at AKL and had an excellent view of the animals. Since I didn't try out the other floors I can't say which is better.

However, the third floor was nice because it is on the same floor as the lobby. I didn't have to get on the Elevator to get to my room. (The pool is on the first floor so you do need to take one to get to it.) There is an Elevator half way down the Zebra trail that goes down to the pool and Mara. Very convieniet.

Hope she loves the resort as much as I do. I am planning on staying at AKL in April, this time with Concierge.

Ohhhhhh OK! I didn't know the lobby was on the third floor. I think I'll request that for her. Are there guest rooms on the first and second floors too???

There are no rooms on the first floor of the resort. There are rooms on the second floor. I believe that these rooms offer better views of the animals because they are lower and therefore closer to the animals.

Keep in mind that not all the animals come in close for most of the day and a higher room lets you see farther in the distance where they are often hanging out. Also, no matter how good your room location, the best place for a young one to see the animals is at the ground level viewing area where the animals are often just a few feet away.

Just returned - loved AKL!! We were in room 4525, Zebra Trail - great location, but quite a walk from the lobby. I thought the view from the 4th floor was great, then went down to a 2nd floor viewpoint and thought that was great, too - I would have been happy with a view from floors 2,3 or 4 - as long as I was on the side overlooking Arusha Rock!
