Which room view is better? deluxe savanah on higher floor or the std savanah. We have heard pro's and con's for both, not sure if tree's effect view for the higher floor. Which savanah is better to request (more animals, lots of action)? Presently we have the deluxe but now getting confused. Thanks, any info on akl greatly appreciated! MKY:)

We were in a Standard Savanna view room on the 4th floor overlooking Arusha Savanna. Our room was on the Zebra Trail. Our view was not bad, but we definately had some trees in our way. IMHO the 2nd floor would be the best.

Don't worry too much about which floor you get, the AKL is AWESOME!!!

We were on 5th floor (concierge) Zebra trail overlooking the Arusha savannah. I would take our view again in a heartbeat. I guess the tradeoff is that yes, we were higher above the animals, but we could see nearly the whole savannah (except small parts hidden by the Arusha Rock in the middle. The view was spectacular, and (IMO) there are plenty of opportunities while you are staying to view the animals from the lower levels! We never let an evening go by without a walk around Arusha rock, (and a while by the fire pit also!). I think no matter where your room is, you'll love the place, though!

Hello:

I am an early riser and am looking forward to sitting outside on the balcony at the akl while the rest of the family is still sleeping, I am talking aroung 6 or 7a.m. Am I gonng get bit alive at that time? Anybody else do this recently? Thanks

Deb.

I agree with Darthgoofy. We were on the 4th floor overlooking the Uzima Savannah. Although it certaining wasn't a bad view, I think lower rather than higher would be better.

Cottontale: We were there in November with no problems on our balcony. I would think that since there are no guest rooms on the ground floor near bushes and trees that bugs might not be a problem at anytime. When we sat near bushes around pool, there was a tiny, tiny something that bit us, but not enough to chase us away.

Anyone else?

We didn't have any problems with bugs on our balcony either, and we sat out there alot. Others have reported being bitten by the no-see-ums (little gnatty bugs) especially around the pool area, so some insect repellent might be a good idea.

We were on the 5th floor Kudos Trail (Arusha Savannah)...the view was great...the trees are still small so not really in the way..the animals came right up to the edge of the grass anyway...it is excellent.

The AKL is spectacular!

Just back from AKL:
First: Room
We were in room 3503 (Zebra Trail, Arusha savannah, mid way down the hall-just past the elevators)and I can't imagine a better location. The 3rd floor is low enough that you feel that the animals are close but high enough to get a great overview of the whole savannah. the only problem with the 3rd floor is that it is also the main lobby floor so we were happy that our room was just on the far side of the elevator. We didn't hear the other guests on their way to the elevator to their rooms yet the elevator was close so going down to the pool and restaurants was quick and easy. The other advantage to being further down the hall was the view was much more open. If you're too close to the center Arusha rock can block some of your view.
Second: Bugs
The weather was pretty cool when we were there (lo 70s most of the time) so on the whole bugs were not a big issue EXCEPT at dusk. the no-see-ums do come out at around 5-6PM. We felt them at an outside table near Mara on two different evenings and again waiting for Fantasmic to start. I suggest long pants and bug spray if you're going to be out and sitting around then. However we had no problem on our balcony in the mornings or walking around Arusha rock at night.

I have stayed on the $th floor twice and it was perfect each time...I would not like being any lower I'm sure.:)
