"Rumors indicating that the Contemporary Resort's North Garden Wing could be completely rebuilt as Disney Vacation Club lodgings are still strong, but we're now hearing that the next DVC resort to be announced will be at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The Contemporary DVC building will reportedly not be started until after the first DVC resort is built in California. The California resort would immediately follow the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. A preview center for the Animal Kingdom Lodge DVC resort is being set up in the theater at the Saratoga Springs Resort."

These guys have informants on the Inside of Disney, and are usually right on.

I guess that would mean I have a little more time to save up for that Cont. add-on! :)

We love the Animal Kingdom Lodge. My Dh always asks if we can stay there and I have to remind him that it is not DVC. I am looking forward to some kind of announcement because the speculation is tiresome.

FWIW, just got back on Sat from SSR.

Stayed in the Springs directly across from the theater. If there is something going on in there, construction/remodeling or otherwise, you'd never know it.
Then again, maybe they are already finished???? :confused3

Just read this on Mouseplanet. Thought I would pass it along. If this has already been posted, I apologize in advance:

Disney Vacation Club rumors take another left turn

Rumors indicating that the Contemporary Resort's North Garden Wing could be completely rebuilt as Disney Vacation Club lodgings are still strong, but we're now hearing that the next DVC resort to be announced will be at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The Contemporary DVC building will reportedly not be started until after the first DVC resort is built in California. The California resort would immediately follow the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. it just doesn't make sense to close the north wing (happened while I was there-- the last in my room I suppose) unless they either 1) tear it down to start the DVC or 2) refurb it. Otherwise, why close it???

There is definitely something happening at the theater. During our August stay they completely removed all the theater seats and gutted the place and were installing sheetrock when we were there. The seats were stacked around back and removed the next day and they were inside working on the theater.

We were told many times while there, they were working on preview rooms for the next DVC.

Why close it, if they are going to do room rehab? They did not completely close the South Wing to rehab it. :confused3

Revised: according to SpiceyCat they did close the South Wing completely to rehab it, according to reliable sources, the North Wing is scheduled for the same rehab as South Wing got, starting now.

:thumbsup2 :cool1: :thumbsup2 :cool1: I can hope - I so want a DVC resort in CA!

Somewhat of an update: Not sure about CA or AKL, but the North Wing is being closed to rehab the rooms as regular Contemporary Garden Wings.

I would take that to mean, that while a DVC there might be in the future plans, it is not something that is going to happen soon.

yes they did. they took everything out - clean it up - then put in the new stuff.

time will tell.

but one reason so must specalation is that the North wing is in worst shape than the south wing every was - so why did it take Disney so long to do the rehab on the North wing?

won't believe it until I see them working on the rehab and not taking down walls.... all the walls - didn't they take down one wall when they rehab the south wing????

I hope to see a Cont DVC but not until 2009 (when I will have money again)

Oh I know for a fact that DVC going in there was under serious consideration and then suddenly it wasn't and AKL was the hot topic. All I know for sure at this point is the rooms at the North Wing are being done as regular rooms at this time not DVC. Not sure what changed the focus from the Contemporary to AKL but it definitely changed.

Did they completely close the South Wing to rehab it, I thought they did it a section at a time?

If they completely closed it my confusion on that, but I got the update about the North Wing today from Resort Operations that it would be rehabbed with the new decor, same as the rest of the resort.

What, I was wrong. DVC California is not first. I can't believe it. This must be the first time in my 47 years that I was wrong about something. ;)

Maybe the survey we did here.... :teeth: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :happytv:

I agree Spicycat. Response for a Contemporary DVC was Tepid at best. I am not big on AKL. But I think it will sell well. As for DLR, people have been asking for that for years.

I sense another case of addonitis coming on...

I told DW that the only way I would add on more points at WDW would be AKL.. :thumbsup2

I talked to my guide last week. She is at Disneyland DVC office and has been for couple of weeks. In my best innocent voice, I asked, "Oh, are they going to put in a DVC in Disneyland? That would be great because I would love to go there, but the points for a room are just too high." She didn't exactly say no, but her response was fairly negative, stating that DL is too landlocked.
