AKL Dinner choices

Thinking of driving to AKL for dinner. What would be the best restaurant to try and best time to see the animals on the safari? Thanks

Of the three TS restaurants - Jiko, Boma, and Sanaa - only Sanaa, in Kidani Village, has windows overlooking the savannah so you can watch the critters while you eat. The other two don't have overlook windows, but it's easy enough before or after your meal to see animals from any one of several viewing points. As far as restaurant choices, we really like Boma for the variety. The animals are out at all hours.

The safaris offered at AKL are another matter entirely.

We didn't eat at Sanaa on our recent visit - the menu sort of freaked the rest of my family out (wimps!) - but the view couldn't be beat.

I have heard that the animals come in close to the lodge at about 7 or 8 pm, so if you have your meal at Jiko or Boma very early or very late, then you can see the animals at the lodge after or before your meal. I tried to get a 5:30 for Jiko but the best I could get was 6:20.

Boma is an excellent choice and allows you to try numerous options (with or without the African inspiration). The pork shoulder, steak, salmon, and roasted chicken are all great.

We stayed at AKL and most of the animals were not out until early evening as it began to cool off. That is when you would see most of the animals out and roaming around. I'd schedule a later dinner, 7ish, and arrive early to go out to the viewing area.

I've been to Sanaa - there are not many tables with a view of the savanna, and most likely no guarantee that you will get one. I have heard MANY reports that people won't go there because of the menu, but I personally LOVED it.
