Ok, because we are getting such an awesome rate with the comeback rate, dbf has just agreed to let me upgrade our ressie to concierge. This is the first time we will be staying concierge so any tips would be appreciated. We have requested non-smoking King Bed with a view of Arusha Rock. Does this sound good???
Can anyone give us some info on rooms, concierge itself, ???
Thanks...I am so excited !!!!!!!!

Dansyr, that sounds great. I don't know if you have stayed at the AKL before, so I can only suggest that you schedule some real resort time during your visit. When my family stays at the AKL, we never leave the resort. The resort is gorgeous and oh, so relaxing. It is my favorite resort. As to the concierge staff, they are my favorite. I adore them. This is all my humble opinion.

I hope you have a fun time planning your vacation.

No we have not stayed at AKL before but my bf fell in love with while we visited there on our last trip. This is a 2nd trip this year so we are planning a more relaxed trip than our usual all day at the parks trip.
Now the only problem is the more we see the more we get spoiled. We usually stay at the All star's. Last trip we did the gold plan and we visited many of the resorts. Next trip dbf would like to stay at the Poly. I think we are both going to have to take another job if this keeps up....lol
Oh well...do it while we can I guess.
If you have any tips...please let me know.

Tips? Make sure to read the AKL FAQ thread here on the Dis. Also, make reservations to dine in both Jiko's and Boma's restaurants. Since you'll be an AKL concierge guest, definitely consider attending the Sunrise Safari and Breakfast event. My main tip for you, however, would be to just relax and enjoy the resort. It sounds like you'll be doing just that. Excellent!

Just as soon as we have stayed at all the Diseny resorts, AKL will be our home. Janet is right about not leaving the resort; it is truly wonderful!

I think I could just live there!

Have a great time, do all that you can *at* the resort. If you are a wine drinker, you'll enjoy trying the African wines in the lounge; I know we did.

we were there last week (concierge) and I miss the African smoothies and that Great cappucino machine! talk about spoiled!

Tips:

Do the Sunrise Safari.

Plan on spending the majority of time at the hotel, it's very hard to leave.

Take advantage of the concierge staff they are fabulous and will take care of all of your arrangements.

I am so jealous, I want to go back wah wah wah. I will definitely be looking forward to your trip report.

I just had a few questions on the sunrise safari, is that available to any guest staying at AKL or is that only for concierge guests?

Does it cost anything?

Is there another safari at nights guests can do? Neither of us are big early risers.

We just got our DVD from Disney in the mail and after watching it, my DH has decided he'd rather save up a couple more months in order to stay at AKL than to stay at POR.

This will be my first trip, his second, but for some reason, I'm the one having to do all the planning. Since we only tend to take a vacation once every three to five years, we want to make sure it will be nice.

Thanks!
Rachael

Rachael--

It's only available to concierge guests, it's only available in the am, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and i'ts $50 per adult, plus park admission. Well worth it IMHO!

Hi Rachel,

Yes the sunrise safari is reserved for concierge guests only. You must be a concierge guest the night before the safari. There is talk of imposing a 2 or 3 night minimum stay in concierge. But I don't believe that has happened yet.

It costs $49.95 per person 11 and over and $24.95 for ages 3-10. As far as I'm aware there are no nighttime safaris.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'd like to do that, but $100 for two seems a bit much. But then again, I'm a cheapskate, which is one reason DH wants me to do all the planning. :p

When we were there in January, 2003 the concierge staff was talking about doing a sunset saffari, but I'm sure we would have heard something about it if they had gotten it together.

Here's hoping!

Our Sunset Safari guide this past Saturday confirmed the evening safaris are coming. He said they will be at the Animal Kingdom Lodge instead of Animal Kingdom and will be paired with dinner at Jiko. HTH!

That is so cool! We don't plan on going until mid-2004, no date set yet, so here's hoping they're there by the time we are.

Is it really worth it to go for a savannah room over a standard? My DH's only caveat for going to an onsite resort was he wanted to be as far away from the majority of kids as possible when we were in our room. At the World is ok, but when you want to relax is when he wants it quiet. :)

In my opinion - yes, yes, and yes! The savanna view is wonderful if the budget allows. It is wonderful being able to look out your balcony and see a giraffe. On the other hand, if the budget is tight - there are windows all through the hallways that you can look through and several observation areas throughout the hotel. There were lots of children there - including my own - but its almost like once you are in there - its a hideaway. I would definitely consider going back there with just DH and I for a quiet getaway. HTH!

Thanks. We don't mind kids general. We just mind the ones who aren't minding their parents. ;)
