 DH and I (both 50+) booked 2 nights AKL concierge Fri and Sat 9/10 and 9/11 2004. Have never stayed at AKL, and it is a surprise for my DH. Booked this in between weeks at VWL and BCV - also booked sunrise safari, and they have another safari at sunset that costs $150 per person including family style dinner at Jiko. I don't know about this one - I will miss all of the offerings in the concierge lounge if we do this one!

Anyway, if anyone has stayed in the concierge, can you give me an idea of what rooms you liked? I asked for a safari view, as my desire is to stay up late and watch the animals - I am so excited, I can't wait.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone not liked the AKL? I have one friend who hated it because the kids above them were very rowdy on the balcony and spoiled the quiet and serenity. I would have just asked to be moved!

We stayed fifth floor, arusha savannah, zebra trail. After investigating on these boards, that was the recommendation. Even the concierge CM who called me prior to my visit, agreed with my request. The 6th floor has the lounge, but most of the rooms are "accessible" rooms and are reserved for that need. However, I was also told that the fifth floor has a better view. We were very pleased with our room. I don't remember the number, but we had a very good view of the animals.

The lounge is incredible! The selection of food is very good, and the capuccino machine will spoil you if you are a coffee drinker. The view overlooks the lobby, and you could spend the day there very comfortably!

Enjoy!

We were on the 5th floor near the elevator, arusha savannah, zebra trail. It was a great location. The 6th floor rooms are closer to the lounge, but we talked with some people who said they hardly had a view at all. We saw were their room was during our Safari and I can see why they didn't like it. I really believe the 5th floor is the better choice.

We did the Sunset Safari in March. It was wonderful! The dinner at Jiko was out of this world. It was 4 appitzers, 4 entrees and 4 dessserts. Wine was served with each course. The chef came out and explained each dish. It was only another couple, DD22 and I. Riding in the van, stopping with the giraffes right beside the windows, taking tons of pictures .. it was an experience I will never forget.

To say you would miss the food in the lounge for Jiko is like saying if you dine at the best steakhouse you will miss McDonald's. :) The food in the lounge was good, but it was sometimes cold. Also, just trying to get some because of the crowds of people wasn't much fun. We enjoyed getting drinks there during the day. The ice tea was perhaps the best I have ever had. DD liked the African smoothie.

Do any of the rooms on the 6th floor offer a good view of the savannah?
