Hi we are new to the boards and to Disneyworld. My husband and I are taking our two teenage daughters (15, 16) to Disneyworld for three days in December. At this point we have a choice between AKL concierge or YC using AP rates... Any suggestions?

Is either resort better for teenagers?
Is concierge service worth switching to AKL for?
How is the pool at AKL?
Any balconies at AKL?
Which type of room should we request?
etc...

We only plan on spending a couple of days in the parks - not sure which ones. My husband and I love to just sit outside and relax...

Any and all help would be most appreciated. I have read these boards, done searches and after a week of agonizing over this decision - I need help!

Thank you everyone...

Although I would usually say go to AKL Concierge in a heartbeat - in fact, we are staying there again in November - with our 3 girls, aged 7, 13, and 14, and their grandparents; with only 3 days, and going to the parks only 2 days - I think that for your family - YC may be the better option.

AKL does have balconies, and the deluxe concierge room balconies are slightly larger than the regular balconies - you and your DH would probably love this resort - especially if you love animals!

The AKL pool, however, is pretty boring. Although the views are lovely, and the pool itself is quite large; the slide is short and tame, and the pool isn't very themed. My girls were quickly bored at this pool last December, with the exception of my youngest.

AKL does have lovely sitting areas around the firepit - you can really soak in the African atmosphere, and enjoy the animals, but there is not much in the way of entertainment for teens.

YC would have Stormalong Bay - which has plenty of entertainment for any age. You would also have easy access to MGM, with its' teen magnets, Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror, Epcot - which is open till 9 every night of the year, and the Boardwalk, with the ESPN club, etc, which would have fun things for your girls.

I would say go AKL concierge. I say always go concierge whenever you can.

Well... you have implied you will not be spending a lot of time at the parks so you will be able to enjoy the concierge at AKL to it's fullest.

I love Animal Kingdom Lodge ~ it is my favourite resort, you will not be disappointed there.

However I admit with the ages of the kids they might have more fun at in the YC/BC Boardwalk area and stormalong bay.

If only you could send the kids to YC and you two enjoy concierge at AKL. :p

I am definitely leaning more towards the concierge at AKL as my daughters are not big swimmers ... but the rate that I have been given is for "no specific view guaranteed." Do the concierge rooms have views of the parking lot? We really would like the Savannah...

A second unrelated question - what is a PS?

AKL concierge has only about 15 rooms (if that) on the 6th floor.. some of them are Savanna view, some are pool view and the pool view rooms are smoking optional.

For the majority of concierge guests they use the rooms on the 5th floor just off the lobby that have stunning views of the Arusha savanna. This is the room I recommend that you request.

I have never heard of anyone staying concierge not recieving a savanna view if this is what they request - so don't worry I am 99.9999999% positive you will have a savanna view. To make this 100% simply request non-smoking for medical reasons and they will have to guarantee a non smoking room, therefore savanna view.

PS - this means 'priority seating' and is another name for reservations at Disney restaurants.. etc..

Hope this helps... by the way, I have a whole AKL concierge section on my website link below...

I checked out your website and frankly that was one of the reasons I was swayed to change my mind. By the way, I am from St. Catharines, and my son went to U of T last year! And we are on our way to the area for Thanksgiving!

I am now just waiting for my Travel Agent to get back to me so that I can reserve that concierge room at the AKL...

Thank you so so much!!!
