AKL Concierge or GF?

Hi,

It's never too early to start thinking of future trips. Have 2005 planned. See countdowns!! Was thinking of doing a few days (2 or 3) GF or AKL Concierge with a few days @ BCV. We just stayed @ AKL & love it. The concierge sounds nice? Please give details?? We love GF too but haven't stayed there. Please tell me the difference in views. Is there a Castle view?? Any info would be great. TIA!!

Hi - I have done both and loved both!
If you are splitting the stay with a stay at BCV, why not do something totally different and splurge on AKL Concierge? It is fabulous! Don't miss the Sunrise Safari! You'll have to be sure to spend your nights there to coincide with the Safari (I believe they are Sat. and Tues. mornings...) The lounge is so warm and inviting and the capuccino machine is ecstasy for coffee fanatics Splitting w/ BCV will be like 2 vacations in one .
At GF, you would need to reserve a lagoon view room and request a castle view (ask for Conch Key for dead-on views of the Castle; I request Boca Chica to have peeks of the Castle and panoramic views of the SS Lagoon - Contemporary, Poly, MK)

We have done concierge at AKL and it is wonderful. We have not done concierge at GF..but, I can tell you this.

While we were there...we visited with a lady whose family had just come from GF concierge to AKL concierge..she said AKL concierge blows GF concierge out of the water...they loved it so much more, people treats the works...their new favorite would be AKL concierge.

Hope that helps. You proably can't go wrong with either..we however are very partial to the wonderful people at AKL!!!

I haven't been to AKL lodge, and don't plan to based on photos and lack of interest in the decor.

We honeymooned at GF, main building concierge, and loved it.

Our room had a perfect castle view, the concierge food and service was excellent.

We loved the pretty decor, and the relaxed feel of the grounds, also the music in the lobby each night.

You can't go wrong, you'll have an amazing time either way.

bambi - your pictures are FAB! When we did the safari in January it was an overcast day - you got some amazing pictures with the blue sky! (Did you happen to see One eyed Mary? heheh...the ostrich with one eye? she kept turning her head every time we tried to take her picture!)

: sigh : I have to wait until December to use the cappucino machine!

wasn't the dinner at Jiko amazing? LOVE that place!

AKL concierge is just amazing...the GF in general really doesn't appeal to me personally...I prefer "rustic" to "posh"...but that's JMO. There's a resort for everyone at WDW!! But I just like how there are 2 things solely reserved for AKL concierge guests - the Sunset and Sunrise safari...both amazing experiences!

Thank you guys for your replys!! I wanted to clear something up. We were NOT planning on GF concierge just a lagoon or garden view room. Haven't stayed there & we have to try it before we decide whether concierge would be worth it @ GF or not.

We have stayed @ AKL (May 204) & loved it!! Just wanted to clear that up. Keep the replies coming.

GO GO GO with AKL concierge!! I notice that I am seeing a lot of "neighbors" posting about AKL lately. We all seem to want to call it "home"! If you liked AKL, you're going to LOVE their concierge!

Hey Tinkgrl, we are planning an AKL concierge/BCV combo trip in Feb 2005!!!

We have never stayed at AKL so we are very excited. We had dinner there last Thanksgiving (was suppposted to be Jiko but ended up at the Mara due to kid issues!) and we loved the place. DH has to do the Sunrise Safari so we are going concierge! Our trip starts Feb 16th the last day of value season, for the lower rates. We will be at AKL for 4 nights then back home to BCV 2 bdrm for 5 nights.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't see what's so great about AKL concierge. We just got back from 6 days at GF main building concierge, a 4 night Wonder cruise, and 5 days at AKL concierge and I liked the GF concierge so much better. The desserts at the GF (chocolate covered strawberries, mini pastries, cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats) blew away the few offerings AKL had for dessert (one pastry, stale cookies, rice krispie treats). Breakfast/snacks/tea were the same in both places with the addition of gummy bears at AKL (I could have done without those). Dinner offerings were about the same in quanity and quality, just the actual dishes that were different. Both equally good though I think. The GF always had a kids area though, which AKL didn't, and the kids table sometimes had some tasty stuff! The lounge at the GF, I thought was much better since at least you had a view of something, but at AKL you were just over the lobby (also the case at GF, but you could also see outdoors).

We did the Sunrise Safari and I didn't feel it was worth the price at all. Some of the animals weren't even out for the day when we started the safari, we were on the regular safari truck, which did the same 'can this bridge hold up' stuff that the regular safari does, and we drove through the regular safari, stopping twice to take a photo of a giraffe and an ostrich. We've seen more animals on the regular safari since they're all out from their houses. I have seen the same thing by being on the first truck of the day at the regular ride, cause really, how many pictures of the same animals can you have!? The breakfast was good, but not worth the full price of the safari. I had a good time, but I'd never do it again or recommend it to others.

Like I said, I know most people don't agree with me so I'm wondering what the appeal of AKL concierge is? Like stinkerbelle, I like the AKL better than the GF so I was sure I'd feel the same about their concierges but unless I'm missing something I don't see what's so great at AKL?
