Just wondering if anyone who stayed concierge at AKL could tell me what type of cordials were offered. I'm more a wine type person so I was wondering if their was wine available or just typical after dinner type drinks. It would just be nice not to have to head to the bar one night, to just be able to sit in the lounge and relax.

Hi dansyr-

DW and I stayed at the AK Concierge last October. It was simply amazing... wonderful... delightful! You will love the espresso machine... but you were wondering about the cordials. The selection was very nice... and if you didn't like them just ask and a CM will bring you some wine. They have served African wines there that are simply delicious. We saw some domestic ones as well. During the "coridal time" if you would rather have wine, simply _discreetly_ ask and it will be brought to you. My DW had tasted a chablis earlier in the day and thought it would be the perfect accompaniment to her chocolate mousse. She asked a CM about it and voila - a glass appeared! DW was careful not to find fault with the evening's offerings in the CL because the CMs have feelings too. She didn't want to make them feel bad.

You wanted a list of the cordials served- oops my bad. I can't recall much besides Baily's Irish Creame and Dramboui. But there were several others as well. I'll check and post again.

Hi dansyr,

They serve wine during the 5pm to 7pm offerings. The cordials are from 8pm to 10pm. The cordials were the typical after dinner drinks. The wine was very good. I had the wine manager at our local store order a case for me. It is all South Aferican wines.

Thanks guys

oh and Darian...I am so looking forward to that cappuccino machine....I'll be so caffeined up...I'll be going 24 hrs.a day

Hi,

I was there for 9 nights... they had south african wines out in the evening - a red and a white.

Besides the wine... they had Grand Marnier, Frangelico (sp), Baileys, Kaluha and Drambuie.

A couple of nights there was everything... a few times there was one less type... then the next night it was a new bottle again.

I really enjoyed the drambuie.... I would always take one back with me to enjoy on the balcony of our room and watch the animals:p

I never tried the espresso/cappucino machine.. it looked complicated! I just stuck with regular coffee or tea. THe african smoothies were good too - but I found them thick - so I added a little milk or cream to mine.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that AKL cappiccino machine is REAL easy to operate:

1. Put cup under machine's spout.

2. Press Button.

3. Drink Coffee.

Thats it. No muss no fuss. The product isn't as strong as DW or I prefer, but we like Turkish coffee... thick enough to stand your spoon up in. But it still tastes extreeemly yummy.

The bad news? Well there really isn't any... its WDW after all!!!

-dansyr you are gonna love that machine!!! It will be your buddy especially if you do the Sunrise Safari (open ONLY to concierge guests). You are gonna do it right? Right? Oh they serve the most delightful breakfast and you will be able to take the most amazing animal photos while on the safari. U will LOVE IT!!!!

Oh yes we are doing the Sunrise safari !!!!. I've already e-mailed AKL concierge and put our request in.

OK, now I hope I can work that darn coffee machine....or else I'll really feel mechanically challenged.

We are staying at AKL in October, and these posts are enough to make me consider upgrading to concierge level. DH is an espresso junkie, and I am a wineaux (note the classier spelling -- precludes drinking out of a paper bag). I love how the theming even carries through to the concierge lounge.

However, I have to agree with a previous poster -- I would like coffee with some body -- like spoon bending body.....

Hi Darian...

On my first morning I thought I heard some of that "hot steam" blowing apparatus sound - you know the thing that makes the froth... sounds like a vacuum in reverse? lol

Was I dreaming? Thats what intimidated me from tryihg the machine - I really should have asked - I mean I am 38 years old... LOL

The "HOT STEAM NOISE" is all internal. It's own of those self-operating espresso machines. Yes, you still need to add coffee (the CM do that), but everything else is internal. Push, wait, drink. I was intimidated at first also. But being one not to shy away from a challange (yes, I was the fool in school who would always give in to double dog dare) I tried it. It was easy! but the coffee is stronger than the espresso. Go figure?
