Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me.

When I made our reservations I specifically asked if there were smoking optional rooms with Savannah View in the Concierge. Without hesitation she said yes. I asked her - very politely - if she could reverify this - she said no problem and put me on hold for about 5 minutes - she got back on the line and said she had called over to the AKL Concierge Staff and asked and they had said that there was indeed Savanah View Smoking Optional Rooms.

Not that I'm a distrustful person - but - considering history - I decided to make the call myself two days later. I called the Concierge Staff at AKL and asked the same question - re-emphasizing the fact that Concierge did or did not have Smoking Optional Savanah view rooms - he was a very nice person and said that they did in fact have these rooms in conierge.

Well, 2 days ago I got my planning itenerary in the mail from the AKL Concierge and faxed it back to them last night listing my room requests.

A very nice CM emailed me this afternoon saying that they would do all they can to accomodate our needs but that we needed to make a decision as to the type of room we wanted. She said that Concierge did not have smoking optional Savanah view rooms. She said that the 6th floor had smoking optional rooms but that they were all pool view. Fifth Floor was non-smoking.

I am aware of the no smoking allowed on the balconies of the Savanah View rooms since we have stayed here before - although it was not concierge at that time.

Does anyone out there have any knowledge of this?

Thanks for the help

I'm staying at AKL concierge next month and this is what I've been told. I need a non-smoking room due to my son's asthma, I also wanted a room on the 6th floor due the proximity to the lounge since I'd be traveling with little ones. Well, the CM told me I'd have to make a choice, since most of the regular concierge rooms on the 6th floor were smoking optional and had a pool view. All of the savannah view rooms are non-smoking but almost all of them are located on the 5th floor. Since I need a non-smoking room, I'm going to be on the 5th floor. Basically as it as explained to me, savannah view is non-smoking and the few pool views are the smoking optional rooms. It seems I got the same information from AKL concierge as you did, but for a different reason.

I'm in quite a quandry on this.

The main purpose of booking concierge was for the Sunrise Savanah. But..... my 9 yr old really wants the Savanah view - we all really enjoyed that on our last stay and my dh wants his smoking room - humpf - I'm wondering if there are other deluxe smoking optional savannah rooms available - although it would be a trek to the concierge lounge. I know 4th floor has smoking optional standard savannah view rooms as that is where we were the last time - anyone have any knowledge of this?

Just trying to please everyone

Thanks everyone

Well, in september the 4th floor had smoking savannah view rooms, but it sounds like you'll need to call back & speak to the concierge person who helped you last. I'm pretty sure I've read of people being able to stay on floors other than the 5th or 6th, but only they can tell you for sure.

It's very sad that the concierge people don't even know what kind of rooms they have!

When I called concierge and expressed my concern over the possibility of NOT having a savannah room, they told me that since I had noted on my ressie that I have severe asthma and need non smoking, I would have no problem. they said the only smoking optional rooms in concierge were pool view.

Hi there...

I stayed in concierge last august in a non smoking/savanna room on the 5th floor for 9 nights.

Origiinally my husband planned to come to Disney for the last weeked of our trip and join us at AKL... He is a smoker so I asked about moving to a smoking room for the last 3 nights.. concierge (Don) told me that there are no smoking rooms that are Savanna View.. just pool view.

He says it is for the safety of the animals in the savanna - guests might toss their cigarette butt on the ground and the animals would pick it up and eat it... or if the grass is dry it could start a fire.

Hope this helps...

If you are willing to stay on another floor, you can get the Savanah view deluxe room (same as concierge) that is smoking optional on another floor. Just call the conc. staff and ask. I know others have done this in order to stay on a floor with a better view. Your key is what gets you into the lounge, so you can really stay anywhere you want.

Thanks everyone for all the info.

I have been told that all smoking optional rooms in concierge are pool view.

I've also been told that I can move to a delux savanah view room - smoking optional on the 5th floor although it would be at the end of one of the trails and a long trek to the concierge lounge. But this would make both DH & DS happier - I think.

How are the views from pool view - do you look over any rooftops or equipment? Is it a nice view?

Decisions Decisions

Hi there...

I noticed the concierge rooms overlooking the pool while I was swimming...

They are easy to spot as they are on the 6th level and they have thatched covering over their balcony.

They look like they have a very nice view of the swimming pool, pool bar, gardens, etc.... they only roof they would overlook per say - is the covered walkway that leads to Mara and the arcade - which is a nice awning type structure and not intrusive at all.

On the 6th level - just by the elevators that go to concierge - there is a public balcony for concierge guests... we stepped out there almost every day and thought the pool view was terrific.

Hope this helps,

I just wanted to thank everyone that's responded with info on my dilemma. I do appreciate it.

Thanks again to all.
