Its been a while since we returned from our trip (we were there 11/28 - 12/4) I wanted to post a short report about our stay at AKL & BWVs. I am going to post this on both the DVC planning board & the resorts board Im not really sure where the best home for this post is.
We stayed at the AKL concierge for the first night of our vacation. We were very excited about staying at the AKL & trying their concierge. The resort is amazing. There were so many things we loved about it Ill just give the highlights. We had a great room location overlooking the Arusha Savanna. We were on the Kudu Trail on the 5th floor. Every time we looked out our room there was always a couple of zebras or giraffes outside. There were also lots of birds & always a couple of wildebeests. The concierge was ok for our style of vacationing it really isnt for us. We found the lounge to be a bit inconvenient. Id rather sit in my jammies in my room & have a toaster to fix a quick breakfast. Dd (4) is very well behaved
, but I still could not relax I wanted to keep an eye on her all the time, making sure she didnt touch all the food, etc. I am too much of a control freak to let them make my adrs. I love planning my vacation & did not use that service. I think Im more of a deluxe studio gal then a concierge person.
The next day we moved to the BWVs. We had an amazing BW view!
Our room was in the Crest of the Wave section on the 3rd floor. We were truly sprinkled w/ pixie dust at check in
. My parents were also renting a studio for the same time. We rented through different owners, live in different states, have different last names & checked in about 2 hours apart. Our rooms were directly across the hall from each other! Neither of us mentioned anything at check in it was just a little Disney Magic. It was so much fun sending dd across the hall in the morning to spend time w/ Mimi & Papa. They could come over & enjoy our view and share a glass of wine. The view is critical to us. 2 nights dd fell asleep early she would NOT nap during the day, even though she still naps regularly at home. We were able to go back to our room & enjoy the fireworks while she slept. Once she is older it might not be as much of a factor.
Our room at the BWVs was in good shape. Everything was very clean & we even had a towel animal when we checked in! The only thing that wasnt up to par was the couch was really nasty dirty. Ive read that they are planning on replacing them so it sounds like the Vacation Club is already on this. The small kitchen is just what we need perfect for breakfast & snacks. The layout is terrific for our family of 3. We brought a ready bed for dd that she had slept in while we were at the beach. She chose to sleep in the pack-n-play
It fit perfectly against the connecting door. Out of the way. It was nice to have the extra space & couch instead of an extra bed that we wouldnt use.
We had no problems w/ noise. We did notice the bell on one of the games on the BW. DH commented that it could be terribly annoying if you had one of the rooms that were directly across from it. We love the games & atmosphere from on the BW but dont understand why they cant replace that one game w/ something that is a little less annoying! There was some serious fun going on at Jelly Rolls on Fri. & Sat. nights. It was fun to sit out & watch the people coming & going. The noise did not bother us when we had our balcony doors closed.
Dh was so impressed he even went down & spoke to the people at the DVC sales office at the BW. We came home & ran the numbers on purchasing a very small resale contract. We really cannot go more then 3-5 nights per year. We usually need 68 points. For our family the numbers just didnt work. If we had more time to enjoy Disney it would probably be a different story. We have been so lucky to rent points from some wonderful DVC members. I want to thank
Rosemary & Jerry
for all they did to help us make this the perfect vacation. Please dont hesitate to ask if you have any questions
