Hi All,
Can someone tell me the likelihood of getting a room
with bunk beds if I'm just reserved as a standard room? I'm really hoping for one as my son and daughter are past the age of sharing a bed comfortably (13 and 10).
Is this a request I should call in? And if so, when should I do so?
Sorry for all the questions. It's the first time in a deluxe resort for the 4 of us...SO EXCITED:)
Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to call the main reservation line and add a request of bunk beds to your reservation. You can do this any time from the day you book up until 5-6 days prior to your arrival.

Just realize that it is only a request. And because the bunk beds are a bookable category, and more $$, you will be asking for a free upgrade. It's possible they grant it, but just temper your expectations that is unlikely.

I was told you had to get book it that way to make sure you got one. Otherwise there was no guarantee. It cost more but with a 10 year old girl and a12 year old boy it was definitely worth it. They loved the bunk beds and switched who had the top half way through our trip to make it fair

Hmmm... When I booked at standard view it's description states "2 queens OR 1 queen and 1 bunk bed". I understood that to mean you'd get either at that rate... not that they were only upgraded rooms. Maybe I misunderstood?

I see that now. I assumed, my bad, that AKL was like WL in that you had to book a bunk bed room to get one. But it appears that at AKL it's possible to get one without booking it. It looks like the Bunk Bed Pool View is an upgraded category. So I take back what I said that it's unlikely for you to get one. @Lakegirl is correct though that the only way to guarantee you get one is to book one.

So what the odds are that you get one are completely dependent on occupancy and how many others request the same. So it's had to say. But your odds are much better than what I insinuated above.

My kids are 5 years apart with one boy and one girl. We loved doing the bunk beds as they were getting older. For us it was worth the extra money to make sure we had one. It was actually during our first long stay (just at WL) after I'd remarried that we were offered one upon check-in (back in the 90s) because we didn't even know they had them back then. We booked that way ever trip afterwards.

You can add that request at any time. Sometimes requests get overlooked, so if you aren't assigned a room with bunks, you can always ask if one is available. It's not guaranteed you will get it, but it never hurts to ask ;).

You didn't misunderstand. Bunk beds are a booking category for pool and savanna views, but can only be requested for standard view (and CL) rooms. Since you booked standard, bunk beds would be by request. As the pp said, if you want to be guaranteed bunks, you would have to book that category.

I always thought that as well, but after looking further into it, I found out that although bunk beds aren't a bookable category for standard, they can be requested :).

Thank you ALL for the info. I will send in my request and keep my fingers crossed. :)
