We just stayed onsite for the first time ever Labor day weekend. We had not been to the parks for 5 years either. We were surprised when we had a green wall outside our balcony at AKL. Could not see over except when standing up. Made the room very dark during the day. Couldn't tolerate sitting out there and being enclosed either. Are there many rooms like this? Do they only give these to those uf us paying the Florida resident rate?

I'm sorry you got a crappy room.... did you ask to be moved? I don't ever recall seeing a green wall. What part of the hotel where you in?

Was it one of those rooms on the way to the bus stop? I can't believe they actualy put people in those. You have now confirmed my Dh's theory that we aleways get the crappy room because we are staying ona AP rate.

I'm assuming you paid for (and got) a standard-view room. We had a similar balcony off our standard-view room (with a "view" of the parking lot) when we stayed at AKL last October. I don't remember the color of the balcony wall, but it was solid and the balcony was covered by a "thatched" roof that also covered part of the balcony "walls," so there was only a smallish opening we could look out of. It DID make the room dark during the day, but we spent little time there, so it didn't really bother us. We did ask if there were any better rooms available at check-in, but the resort was completely full that weekend...

Even with a not-so-great room, we still enjoyed the resort; hope you did too!

Didn't ask to be moved as it was only 1 night and we wanted to get to the parks first thing in the morning. It was the 4th floor in the front on the left side of the building as you face the hotel. You can't see the walls from the outside. Can only see the roof thatch.

I was under the impression that you had a savannah view room. I guess I don't understand what you would expect for a standard view????

It was standard. I didn't expect a wall inches from the railing being standard. Even the hotel rooms I get with balconies off of Priceline have never been that bad!

The room was nicely decorated with the bunkbeds. Seemed small compared to 3 star rooms we get off of Priceline around Orlando. Restaurant I saw was extremely expensive. Cheapest meals were $24.99. Found a side road nearby to 192 and found a wide range of affordable options.

I saw similar rooms to what you described on the pool side too. These were over the roof of Boma's. I hope these are not pool view. Surely they are standard. At any rate, I saw only a lady's head peering over the wall so I knew she had to be standing. These room must also face the lobby according to where they were.

We had one of those types of rooms on the poolside on the second floor. I too was very disappointed as we had a little 2 1/2 yo DD with us and she could not see anything unless we held her up. I wasn't going to complain about it at first as this pool view had been an upgrade from our booked AP standard view room rate. But we were also next to the elevators and my DH could not sleep well at all that night, he kept hearing the shaft cars to up and down. So the next morning we asked to be moved and were moved very nicely to the fourth floor away from the elevator shaft. We loved this room!! It had a normal balcony and I ended up spending loads of time out on it in the evening or when DD was napping. I was sooooooo glad we asked to be moved. Plus this room had an extra dresser in the front of the room that our old room did not have!! After our room change AKL became a favorite for us!
So sorry you had this view too. If you are on a longer stay next time ask to be moved! :)

Had a balcony like that at BWV the only time we stayed there- it really made no sense as it was also a hanicapped access room so anyone in a wheelchair could never have been able to see the beatiful view of the Luna Pool, I didn't ask to be moved as I did ask for close to pool and that's what we got- also close to elevators. Will be checking into AKL Christmas Day so am afraid only not so great rooms will be available but will hope for the best. Have a reseration for savannah view so amybe that will help a little.

We paid for a handicapped standard view room at the AKL and had a solid wall balcony. However, we were facing a savanna and were able to see the animals so we were very happy. I would have asked to be moved if I had paid for a savanna view room.
