I'm trying to decide whether to call and make special requests for our room at AKL. We have a deluxe savannah room. Are there any that don't offer good viewing of the animals or can we pretty much breathe easy that our room will be great? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!

I would think that all savannah rooms have a clear view of the savannah. Where the animals decide to go in relation to your field of vision is somewhat out of control, although browse (what they eat) and other stuff is strategically placed to help with your viewing. We've had three Savannah view rooms and saw animals all the time. For us, though, we actually saw fewer animals when we were on the Arusha savannah than others, but like they tell you, each experience is different.

There's also the public viewing areas outside, with nice rocking chairs where you can sit and enjoy the animals.

Oh, I just love AKL! :D

The deluxe rooms are higher up, and depending on where you are, your view can be somewhat blocked by trees. Did you request a specific savannah? I know we requested a move after a few days, because all we saw on our savannah were birds. Our second room faced the largest, main savannah (can't remember the name, it's the one with the big rock) and we saw more variety of animals, but only right under our balcony, because the tree brances blocked our view of much of the rest of the area. It's been a few years, and I'm sorry I don't have room numbers, but some rooms definitely have better views than others. I know we saw many more animals just walking down the halls than we did from our balcony.

Just wondering if anyone else can offer any advice on this one. It's pretty important to us to see the animals up close for our daughter's benefit. She's too young to use binoculars ;)
Any further room advice would be great! Thanks!

Hello,
We were at akl in sept 2003, in a sav view room. In our first room, the view was horrible, I was upset. Before the bellhop left, he circled areas on my map, and told me to go to the front desk and request another room. He waited with dh and dd (2 at the time) till I got back with the new room keys.
The bad room was 3407....viewed a rock
the new room was 3507.....great sav view. These rooms are on the zebra trail.

Here are other room numbers the bellhop suggested

zebra trail 2423-2437, 3423-3437, 4423-4437,5423-5437
2501-2515, 3501-3515, 4501-4515, 5501-5515

We are headed back in Dec abd I have requested zebra trail 2501-2515.....you are centered in the sav, and eye level with the animals
Good luck;)

Thanks disneyma2 - exactly the kind of info I need! Do you happen to know if any of those rooms are deluxe savannah rooms or are they all regular savannah. thanks again.

I to am interested in a good view the savannah, but there are several to chose from. Any suggestions from past experiences? Any recommendations of sites discussing the different savannah's and rooms with good views?

IMK...
In ref. to my last post, I believe the rooms that are on the 5000 range are all deluxe rooms. I'm not sure about the 4000 range, you could always call the resort directly. I hope this helps. :0)

Hi Disneyma - I called reservations yesterday and the woman was not overly knowledgeable but checked with someone and told me that there are deluxe savannahs on the 3rd floor. I really hope she got her information straight since we requested 3rd floor Zebra trail - she didn't have enough room in her computer to put the room number requests. Do you (or anyone else) know if you can call the resort directly to request specific rooms?

ALL deluxe rooms, both pool view and savannah view are on the fifth floor. There are also some deluxe rooms on the sixth floor which are concierge only. I hope this helps!

Debbie

IMK,
Did you book your trip through Disney Travel co or Central Resrvations? You can call who you booked your room through and ,make specail requests, such as non smoking, specific room numbers and animal trails. We booked through Central Res., and I just make my requests through them. I also always call the resort directly, the night before we are to arrive and make sure they have my requests.

Hey there,

Yes, IMHO there are some deluxe savannah rooms with a not so great view. I am probably spoiled by having a wonderful view, 2nd floor, Arusha savannah - on our trip. Last year we returned to WDW and stayed at WL while my cousins were at AKL in a deluxe savannah. I wish I could remember the room numbers but I'll try to describe where it was. If you look at the map http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/aklmap3.jpg
as I remember their room was on the Kudu Trail but did not face the main savannah but faced toward where the stork, crane and ostrich pictures are. There was this corral kinda thing and I've wondered if that's what people here on the DIS call the "people pens". There were animals out there but it wasn't near as natural looking and scenic as the main savannah. I was really disappointed in that view, but they were happy because honestly - they didn't know any better! So - you might want to request a room facing the main savannahs. Arusha was beautiful, even at night.

Have a great time!

Oh, and their room was on the 5th floor.

We had a terrible deluxe savannah view room last time. I'd requested bunk beds and the deluxe room to give us a little more space. I don't recall the room number but it was on the 5th floor on the left side of the lobby or the left wing facing the savannah. It was close to the lobby rather than further down the hallway. Right below the balcony was just a small offset patch of savannah and had the people pen. Looking forward, we saw the corner of the building and tree tops kept us from seeing other parts of the savannah. Looking left, we could even see the gated service entry where delivery trucks came in and out. It was not good at all. We were only going to be there for two days so I didn't request a change.

The time before, we had a wonderful view from the third floor of a regular savannah room. I wouldn't request a deluxe savannah again.

Yes, ALL the way at the end of the 5th floor. No view at all to speak of but a BEAUTIFUL balcony. (I marched back downstairs and got my room changed. I told them they could take back the free upgrade and give me a better view. They left me in the deluxe but did give me a better view)

AKL is the only place I pay for a view and I will ask to move if I don't get a view I like. (One other time I got the People Pen on the second floor, back to the front desk again!)
