I've heard so many mixed reviews about the WDW transportation to/from the parks. Anyone have opinions if staying and using the AKL buses as far as wait time and travel time during busy July/Aug?

None of the resorts are at their best transport-wise during the busiest seasons. Even the monorails slow down! :) For folks who think that slow buses could be a deal-breaker, I advise them to rent a car. At least you will feel that you have some control over your comings and goings. But you'll be sitting in the same traffic! I think WDW does the best it can during the busiest seasons. But it pays to be flexible and pack some patience along with everything else; at some point you will probably need it. ;) And who knows, you could be pleasantly surprised!

AKL busses are, by many reports, the best buses on property. They make one stop at the resort, and you don't share with any other properties.

That being said, they're not MAGIC buses, unfortunately. During July and August, when it's super busy, even they are a bit of a wait and not what I would term "fast" transport. They'll do, but just like everything else at WDW during that time frame, you'll wait, and it will be crowded.

If I were at WDW during that time frame, I'd rent a car if it was in my budget. If not....you can certainly make do with the buses.

Yep - I think their bus service is the best. That's the main reason we were staying there in August but got moved to BC where the bus transporation is not as good (IMO).

We were there July 1-7, and the bus service was great. It's a longer ride to/from certain parks but no other stops along the way - except the MGM bus - it stops at Blizzard Beach.
