AKL and room request

Does anyone have a room request I could put in for special circumstances. We are traveling with my dad who has limited walking. I was just able to book a standard, savannah was sold out. He does not go to the parks but does like to sit on the deck and watch the animals. I think they would probably give me a room if I had an idea for a request. Now I put in one for a room near the elevator and laundry. I think those rooms are down the hall from the lobby on the way to the savannah. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to see him sit on a deck facing the parking lot.

:(

I don't want you to get your hopes up because if it's sold out I doubt they will be able to upgrade you to savannah view (it never hurts to ask though). Just know that there are plenty of places to view the animals. There is actually a great place (2 of them I believe) outside overlooking the Arusha Rock savannah with rocking chairs.

We just returned from AKL and although we paid for a standard view they did upgrade us to a Savannah view because of the early time we checked in and our request for a bunk bed room. So I think it may depend on what's available at the time you check in. If you explain your situation, I'm sure they will be able to accommodate your need for a room with easy access but not necessarily for one with a view.

Personally, I wouldn't have paid extra for the view we had on the Sunset Savannah as it was mostly dirt, a fenced in area and birds. Of course, we did enjoy the freebie! I think that the rooms at AKL are very spread out in terms of walking distance and you might want to ask for a room on the 3rd floor closer to the lobby to avoid any elevators (except to go to the pool and restaurants which are on the 1st floor). At our end of the building there was only one elevator and it was very slow so we often used the stairs.

For standard view, you will most like get a parking lot view along the Giraffe or Ostrich Trails (the front two wings off the lobby). Access to any rooms on the 3rd floor (lobby level) would be easy so if you can persuade them to give you a room across the hall in either of these two wings you might get a view of the pool (Giraffe) or the Sunset Savannah (Ostrich). Anything else would be a pretty far walk in my estimation.

It is all a very long walk, especially ushing a wheel chair on that rug, it is very difficult. We have stayed way out on the Savannah numerous times but it is just so hard. Now I am looking at the map to try and request something near the lobby, elevator, and laundry since we will be staying for quite a while. I am not sure about room numbers and views. I was hoping that someone would have some room number ideas that would help my request.
Thanks to all.

Princess Patti I didn't realize you had been to AKL before. Do you have the map with room numbers that they give you at check-in? I'm looking at mine now and I still think the 3rd floor is your best bet. Room #3006-3016 are in the first section of the Giraffe Trail and Room #3018-3032 are in the second section with an elevator in between to go down to the pool. This is where I thought we might be put with a standard view so I was half expecting that and surprised when we ended up way out on Kudu Trail in that first little wing section.

Also, you could ask for something right along the lobby due to your circumstances. I'm not sure what views these offer but I would think Pool and Savannah. The room #'s are in the little blue boxes: #4,5,6201 - 4,5,6209; #4,5,6401 - 4,5,6406 and #5101-5106. The first numbers being the floor and keeping in mind concierge is on the 6th floor. The laundry nearest to this side would be on the first level behind Simba's Cubhouse, so not very convenient unless you were over there.

Now, there are a few rooms in that little wing section out by the pool that are first floor rooms so maybe that would be easiest. If I am correct, the route you would take is down the elevator in the lobby to the first floor where the restaurants are, out the door, around the pool, thus putting you on concrete (for pushing ;) ) and possibly enter somewhere over there by Simba's(?) Room #'s are 1456 - 1486. Right in that intersection corner you'd have your elevator, laundry and restaurants but not the lobby. What do you think?

Come on, somebody must've stayed in that area and can give a more detailed description!

Hope that helps a little bit!

There are 2 laundry rooms at the AKL. One is on the 2nd floor on the Kudu Trail (All Savanah rooms), the other is on the ground floor across from Simba's Cub House. There are no standard view rooms near that room either. I was in room 3030, Giraffe Trail, pool view, same floor as the lobby and close to the center elevators. The resort was full, we had little elevator wait time. I loved our pool view, we could see the flamingo pool and the savanah beyond from the balcony. Perhaps a pool view would work better, you could request one on the zebra trail, those would be the closest to the laundry. The down the elevators and outside around the pool area to the rooms on the Zebra trail is not a bad walk and as halfway there said, it is all concrete. You would still need to go into the building to get to the room, I don't think you can get a wheel chair onto the 1st floor patio due to the landscaping.

Best of luck with your trip.

Got some great ideas. It is so hard to try and pick an area when I am not familiar with all of them. I like other peoples thoughts and ideas and this is great. Room numbers are so hard to pick unless someone has staye din them. Thanks again.
