Hi,

I would l love to hear a review from someone who actually stayed on the 6th floor (Poolview or savanna)

I had a peek in a savanna view room on 6th after a couple checked-out and the housekeeper was cleaning it - the view was not so bad - just that there are some roof tops down below before you see the savanna.

Anyway - anyone stayed up there? I might request that for my next stay...

Thanx

I would also like to know! We are going in Oct., and I would also like to know if any of the 6th floor savanna view rooms have bunk beds?? Are these rooms non smoking? Any info or tips on AK concierge would be appreciated! Does anyone know if they have bottles of water or soft drinks available? Thanks!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I hope someone can rspond that was on 6 or another floor not too far from the lounge. I requested 2 connecting rooms close to the lounge if possible because my mom has difficulty walking. are the rooms on 6 different than the others? thanks

>>^..^<<, I just did a quick search of the Resorts' board and found the following post by Dclfun:

"W've stayed 4 times at AKL concierge, each time having rooms 6204 and 6205. 6204 is a special needs room, and I prefer being on the 6th floor for easy access to the lounge, not having to use the elevators, etc. The savannah view though, is not as desirable as the rooms on the 5th floor. There's a thatched half- roof over the balcony which blocks the view somewhat, plus you get a view of the "corral" for guests and there aren't any zebras on that savannah. If you're wanting the best view, I'd choose the 5th floor rooms. ---Kathy"

Maybe if you PM her, you can get more info.

I stayed on the sixth floor at AKL a couple of years ago (May 2001), soon after it opened. I tried to find my post reporting on it, but couldn't.

The room we had overlooked the Sunset Savanna. It was in the center of the hall when you looked up from the lobby area. It wasn't in front of the people pen -- that was off to the right side. The thatched roof does overhang and obscure the view somewhat and because of the height of the balcony railing it was more difficult to see while sitting down. The room we had was a king bed room, with a sofa that was either a daybed or pulled out to a bed -- I'm not sure because we didn't try to pull it out.

The room was not far from the lounge, which was great. We walked through the lounge on our way to the elevators and it was easy to grab a drink or juice box or cookies on the way by.

We just stayed at AKL again this month, this time on the fifth floor, not concierge. Our room was all the way at the end of the Kudu trail. The walk to the room was so long that my husband commented several times we didn't know how good we had it when we stayed at the sixth floor room that was close to everything.

We did see a lot more animals on the fifth floor room at the end of the trail -- they seemed to hang out there next to the fence, but I preferred the sixth floor view because you couldn't see the fence as easily and it made you really feel you were in Africa as opposed to at a zoo. There are a lot of trees on the Sunset Savanna and you kind of have to peer through them to see animals. The fifth floor Kudu Trail room didn't have that problem as much. However, overall I would say the sixth floor room was much better than the fifth floor room we had because of the great proximity to the lounge and to everything else in the hotel.

I'd be happy to answer any questions!

Seallenz, what a nice review of the 6th floor. Do you have any photos posted on the 'net of your room and its view?

Wow.. thanx Janet & seallenz,

This is the first info I have ever read on the mysterous 6th floor stay... any DIS'er would agree that almost all concierge reports posted have been 5th floor savanna view.

It does not sound so bad up there.... I think I might like to try it.

Yesterday Jack from AKL emailed me that our sunrise sarfari was confirmed - I dropped him a line asking about these rooms on 6 - I have no heard back yet... will keep you posted.

Are the 6th floor rooms the same size? When we have had concierge we were on 5 and then twice in a 1 bedroom suite. Wonderful room on the 2nd floor with amazing view of the animals, but quite a walk. Are all 6th floor rooms concierge since you would have lounge access? Any idea how many there are? thanks beth

A few years ago on our first trip to AKL, we were assigned a 6th floor room with a pool view. Since it was our first stay there we REALLY wanted a savannah view. They quickly moved us to a 5th floor room on Zebra trail with a great savannah view.
Now that we have stayed there a few times I would not mind having that pool view room on the 6th floor. Our first request this trip is bunkbeds though, not sure if there are any bunkbed rooms on the 6th floor.

Janet, we used to have pictures of that room and the view scanned in, but have changed computers since that trip a few years ago and don't have them online any longer. Maybe I can convince DH to find them and re-scan them.

The fifth floor room I stayed in a few weeks ago was pretty much the same as the sixth floor one. The sixth floor one seemed a little roomier, but that was because it had one king bed instead of two queens. I didn't notice any other differences.

I'm surprised more people haven't stayed on the sixth floor.

Any other reviews of 6th floor rooms??? I would really like a convienent location and this sounds like it might be great! Any pictures???

Hi jacksmom.

For your first stay I definately recommend the 5th floor - main savanna view - you cant get any better than that - but yes, it is a little bit of a walk and one floor up to the lounge.

This is my second stay and it's only 3 nights so I was thinking of checking out the 6th floor if I can - but for you - I would still stick with 5 for the amazing view - if you can get it.

Thanks again for your quick response! The pictures are beautiful!! We have stayed in a savanna view room on a previous trip(3rd floor arusha savanna) and loved the view! But, on this trip I would probably enjoy being closer to the lounge even more! Do you still think I would be better off with a 5th floor room? I have requested 6th floor and bunkbeds, but I was not even sure if they had bunkbed rooms on the 6th floor? Any input appreciated!!! I would also still love to see pictures of views from 6th floor?? And would also love more concierge reviews??:bounce:

Hi Jacksmon,

I think a stay on 6 would be great for you - because you have already experienced a stay on the main savanna.

I just received a email back from AKL when I enquired.

============

Molo Cassie's Safari,

The Sunset Savanna is full of animals and is as large as the Arusha Savanna, 11 acres. The only difference is the roof over hang may obstruct your view but you have the convenience of being on the concierge lounge floor.

Hard to believe the sunset savanna is as big as the main one  but I agree it would be nice to be handy to the lounge.

I am leaving it up to chance - I will just see where they put me this time :)

There are 2 new(er) reviews of AKL concierge on the thread "Post your concierge review here" here is the link
