We want to take our boys to Akershus to eat with the princesses. Since our DS2 is too young to be on the dining plan, will they bring him a meal from the kids menu? Do we have to pay OOP for him? :confused3

Our daughter was two last year and she received a child's meal at no charge.

When we went with our DS then 18 months, he ate from our plates. They don't bring a child's plate without charging you.

At all buffet types/fixed price meals, the official policy is that the child can eat off your plate for no charge. If you want to order something for them from the menu, like a child's meal, you will have to pay for it. Obviously, from some posts, it seems that the server will bring things (like buttered noodles or something) to the younger kids (under 3) - I've also seen people say that about CRT and maybe a few other places.

We've eaten at least 5 times at Akershus and this is the only non-buffet who will offer to let the little ones have an entree of their own (excluding CRT's offer of less-than-nutritious buttered noodles). Last time we did this was in September 2008 so your mileage may vary with Disney belt-tightening and all.

Hoping someone who has been there recently will chime in for you!

We were there on Sept. 21 with our 19 month old. She ate off our plates for both the buffet and breakfast portion of the meal. No separate meal was offered or given for her.

We went there for lunch on Sept. 30 with our 13 month old. They let us order a drink & meal for him and did not charge for him. He also ate off the buffet & our plates. It was AWESOME!

Thank you! It sounds like I'll have to ask when I get there (maybe it depends on your server? :confused3). If they won't let him order his own meal, he can eat off the buffet portion and my plate. There's no way I'm paying $20 OOP for a hot dog! ;)

OP, I sent you a PM but wanted to point out to anyone else reading that breakfast is served family-style at Akershus. There isn't an a la carte menu as there is a lunch and dinner and that is likely the difference in recent experiences.

We were there in June for dinner.

Both of my boys who are under three were given meals and drinks for no charge. I asked the waitress about three times and she kept telling me they could order what they wanted for free.

I know it goes against what you'd think, but this was true for us.

Akershus is considered a buffet/fixed price meal. All the entrees are the same price, and there is the cold buffet. On an earlier thread on this same topic, that is the reasoning someone applied and it seems that when we were there, Akershus followed that reasoning, too. I wasn't about to argue, as the price for my DD was $22 plus tax and tip.
