what do you think of their lunch?

we've done their breakfast last year and thought of doing lunch the last day just before we have to leave.

thought it would be nice for dd to have one last interaction with princesses.

what's the food like?

is it a buffet or service?

is the interaction the same as the breakfasts?

THANKS

Looks pretty similar to the dinner we did 9/2008.

In which case:
- The food was the worst we've had in WDW, IMO. Very, VERY bland. My Dad got the "traditional kjottkaker" and it was the best at the table (but, IMO, no better than the IKEA meatball meal). Maybe it just wasn't our speed, but it was the only time that all 6 of us (6 adults, the 2 kids were happy because the kids menu is like everywhere else in WDW, lol) have ever left a meal at WDW (including QS) hungry.

** closer inspection of the menus at allears looks like they've made some changes since we were there - hopefully a good thing, and could negate our experience? Don't know for sure, hopefully others will be more helpful!

- Combo. Cold buffet with hot entree served. I guess sort of like a Norweigan salad bar, lol.

- I haven't done breakfast, and I understand that the princesses can vary a bit (I recall reading that Ariel in wedding gown only shows for dinner? Held true for us). But, the character interaction at dinner was fantastic. Lots of princesses, a table visit with pictures/autographs from each. The highlight of the meal there for us, for sure.

We'll be trying breakfast there next time, since we loved the princesses, but really disliked the food at dinner.

Service was okay, the Princesses were great, but the food was not good at the dinner we had. I don't know how they ruined a Sautéed Chicken Breast, but they did. There were a couple of salads and some sliced meats on the cold buffet that were good, but all in all the food was awful.

because we had lunch there (although it was almost two years ago) and it was the best TS meal we had all week. I had a chicken dish and my husband had some sort of sandwich... I don't remember. I was nerveous about the food beforehand, but we were going for our daughters and we were delightfully surprised.

The character interaction was great, too. Pictures with Belle on the way in are included with the meal. (Hope that's still the case.)

We all liked it better than CRT. Our food was better, not as crowded, and of course, not nearly as expensive.

The All Ears menu hasn't been updated since 01/09. The menu is completely different now. I don't think it's fair to judge a meal served now based on something that might no longer be available.

ohhh - is there anywhere that has the updated menu?

That's not updated. The All Ears one was closer to what we had last Wed. I can only compare it to dinner that we had but the dessert plate was the rice pudding, mousse and an apple tart, which matches the All Ears menu. The entrees sound the same from what I remember, too. I'd go by All Ears because from what I remember from 5 days ago, All Ears is the right menu. I know there was not a venison stew on the menu last week.

Here, check out the menus listed on the right side. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/dining/akershus/

I loved the salmon as did my dad. My mom and husband loved the kjattkake and my son loved his ravioli.

We really enjoyed the lunch, surprisingly. I really enjoyed the cold buffet & desserts. I considered doing lunch again there because of the cold buffet & desserts, but chose breakfast for May since it worked better with our touring plans. My entree (the Traditional Kjottkaker) was just ok, but DH really liked his (he got the venison). The kids got ravioli & pizza so nothing too crazy there. The princesses were great!!! Our server was awesome. Overall a great meal. We saw Belle in her yellow dress greeting, Ariel (awesome!), Snow White, Cinderella & Aurora. I seriously felt like I hit the princess jackpot! We celebrated my birthday there and I got a signed birthday card from the princesses & server & a cupcake. Definitely do it!

Oh - the menu on the Disneyworld site is the updated one. The venison was on there, but not as a stew. And it was not an open-faced Salmon sandwich, I think it was open-faced chicken.

I've enjoyed the lunch and the dinner. At lunch I had the traditional Norwegian meal. It's similar to Swedish meatballs. At dinner, I had the grilled salmon and was perfectly happy with it.

Our dinner was during a mother/daughter trip. My friend ordered the vegetable stuffed ravioli for dinner and thought the vegetables were a little bitter, but she still enjoyed the buffet and the dessert and I shared some of my salmon which she agreed was delicious.

Hence my caveat that a changed menu "could negate our experience" (though, in fairness, it's not all that drastically revamped).

I can only judge based on my own experience, and IME it was the worst meal (food-wise; one of the best character-wise) I've had at WDW. That's all I said. Everyone has different takes - I hear raves for Crystal Palace and we thought it was so-so, others dislike 1900PF and we all loved it. To each their own. :confused3

Last year we had a 10:30 or 10:45 AM reservation for breakfast and they switched over to lunch during the reservation so we got to try both breakfast and lunch food!!! Husband loved the odd lunch food and kids were full after breakfast -- best of both worlds. We booked the reservation on a day that the park had extra magic hours so that we got in a few attractions before our seating and it served as lunch so we didn't have to stop again!!

Thanks! It's good to know that website is not current, I will stop using the menus to plan my ADRs :rotfl:

I've been to lunch twice and loved it. Most recently (this past January) I got the grilled vegetable stuffed pasta and it was super delicious! Really tasty and the veggies tasted fresh - not something that's been sitting in a freezer. One of the best meals the entire trip. My mom got some sort of sauteed chicken breast dish - she definitely liked it, but I can't really expand on it. The cold buffet is nice and the desserts that come are very tasty. Character interaction is great.

I just signed on to this site a month ago, and this is my first post.. Even though I am a Disney fan (5 trips and counting) I never stumbled on this site before, BOY am I glad I did now, I booked the Norway lunch for my husband (since he always wanted to try the food) and especially for my nieces (princess dining) and then read in a tour book somewhere that they only do character dining for breakfast, I was heartbroken... until I read this thread. So glad I did, since now I know the food is pretty good and the princesses do come out for lunch as well. My trip is saved. This board and it's members are AWESOME! :yay: thank you.

Mzade, you won't be disappointed. It was one of my favorite meals out of our 6 days there.

welcome to the site - i'm glad you found it. it's a wonderful place to feed your addiction to all things Disney :banana::banana:

i'm also glad you found out that the princesses come out at breakfast lunch and dinner at Akershus. - just so you know - they made a chance at the castle and the princesses now will be out for lunch and dinner as well as breakfast which is a good thing. we booked the dinner last year and were a little disappointed in the "show" as the fairy godmother flitted around and didn't visit with anyone

we're doing breakfast this summer and can't wait.

SAME HERE! Mine was not cooked through and I sent it back. When it came back still not done, not sure what the deal was.:confused3

Over the years we have gone here and really enjoyed ourselves, last time we were disappointed. We were packed in like sardines, and the characters rushed through, and seemed harried. The little boy next to us was determined to really HUG each and every princess, and this seemed a bit much to one or two of them. Not sure if it was time constraint or what.

Not sure if we will be booking this for lunch ever again. Maybe a late dinner.

let me preface this by saying that it's been a few years since our lunch at this restaurant. but, this restaurant is the ONE place that my DH absolutely refuses to return to. it was the most bland food i've ever had. several of us left hungry. i just didn't feel it was worth the cost of the meal to fill up on the cold buffet (basically, sandwiches and cold salads). the entree i got was the worst pasta dish i've ever had anywhere.

the only positive was that dessert was really good. and we were able to see esmerelda (of course, my kids didn't even know who she was at the time). the princesses did seem to spend more time at your table versus at CRT. but still, we won't go back.

Food opinions are so subjective... :lmao:
We LOVE Akershus- usually we do dinner, but I think most people either like their food or really do not like their food.
If you have ever heard of a "smorgasbord", then you will get to experience this on a smaller level.
Apps are a variety of Norwegian salads, cheeses, cold meats, breads.
Some of these you can only get in Norway or in Norwegian-American communities (Minnesota comes to mind :rotfl2: )

Hope you will enjoy your lunch! :woohoo:
