Akershus Royal Banquet Hall vs 1900 Park Fare?

We're doing 1900 Park Fare next month. My daughter is two and in LOVE with Prince Charming. LOL. Seriously, we met him at the Pirate and Princess party and she was just ... wow. I booked it b/c all she talks about is Cinderella, but now she's met Prince Charming and the mice ... so she'll be tickled pink when she gets to see them again.

We're also doing Akershus for breakfast in August. I'm a really picky eater, and I'm just not sure I could pull off dinner. I want to try it someday, but I'm the kind of girl that I need to NOT know what I am eating. We're doing breakfast since it's soemthing we both love ... mmm breakfast. At the P&P Party Juliette really started showing an interest in ALL the princesses. She keeps talking about Snow White and Rora ... so I'm really hoping she'll love this. We picked both of these b/c well ... she eats free! LOL ... thats something nice to consider when you have a 2 year old.

If they bring back the P&P Party while you're there in Jan ... GO! Juliette was thrilled and still talks about it. We're going back in August, and I'm hoping it is something that really sticks. Not part of your original question, but obviously Disney has worked it's magic on us ... Princess princess and more princess ... seems to be the only word she says now.

We just got back and we did both. I would definitely do Askerhaus again on the next trip. Princesses were more interactive and there were more of them. We loved it there. 1900 was Ok. We wouldn't go back. The Food as Askerhaus was the best of our trip according to DH

Being married to a 100% Swede from Northern Minnesota, I can tell you that Scandinavian cuisine can be an acquired taste. I'm not surprised that some find the food "different".

Now, with that said, I am somewhat surprised that some of the people posting here, who describes themselves as "picky eaters", would chose to go someplace that serves regional food and then complain when they don't like it. It's one thing to say "I wanted to try something different, and found that I didn't care for it". But to say you are a picky eater and then choose to go someplace like Akershus seems to be setting yourself up for a bad dining experience.
Just like I wouldn't expect to be able to order BBQ Ribs at the Rose & Crown, I wouldn't expect to be able to get a steak and potatoes at Akershus.

With that said, we are totally excited about our ADR here in August. This was a last minute addition to our plans, and we are glad we did it. Especially after the glowing comparisons to 1900 (which was our other choice, but because of the renovations, were having second thoughts).

That's why we'd be going for the breakfast. I would not go somewhere when I already saw a menu and then complain about the different type of food served. Looking mostly at the "character" differences in the 2 places.

Parke Fare will be closed for refurbish late in the summer.

Akershus great interaction, Mulan drafted me into her Army... but the food is below average. Parke Fare has the best bread pudding with Vanilla sauce, and an omlet bar.

For the food, parke fare hands down. If you have a little girl... Akershus, hands down.

HI,

Just back . . . DD4 and I were in Norway on Saturday for lunch with a friend and her 2 DD's. She went to both Norway and 1900 and her opinion was that Norway was the better of the 2 hands down. The only princess at 1900 is Cindy and her girls were "scared" of prince charming. She found the food at 1900 just soso.

We had an amazing time at Akershus - it was truly magical - we went to BBB first and my DD was made up like Aurora. We walked into Akershus and there was Aurora - my DD was speechless - Aurora was wonderful with her. We then sat down and had Snow White, Belle, Cindy and Ariel all come over. They talked with the girls took as many pictures as we wanted and really spent quality time with us. It was amazing - I've never seen so many princesses! The restaurant itself feels like you are in a castle and the food really was not that different. I had chicken with pasta and my DD had a turkey and cheese roll up. The cold buffet is salads, fruit, cheese and meats (turkey, ham, salami etc.)

Everything was great and I highly recommend it. I've never been to 1900 so I can't offer a personal review just what my friend was telling while we were at Norway.

Was at both in Dec...would do Askerhaus for bfast again in a heartbeat, and would totally skip 1900 completely...NOT impressed.

I totally agree. I have been to Akershus for breakfast and dinner and both were great. The menu sounds exotic, but it's pretty standard fair. I had the pasta dish which was basically pasty, roasted veggies, and a chicken breast. I loved the cold buffet!

I found 1900 Park Faire tgo be disorganized and very chaotic. The food was okay, but it ranks up there with the Sci-Fi as my least favorite restaurant.

I love:love: these old threads. This just helped me make up my mind about where to take DD! Akershus it is!

I guess as a follow up to my original post, we did go to Akershus for dinner while at Disney. We had Alice, Jasmine, Pocahontas & Cinderella come around by the table. Ariel was in front when you first came in. Princess interaction was perfect.

The kids had the pizza and it was fine. I had the kids pasta, but in an adult portion. I can't remember off hand what DH had, but I remember he thought it was very good!! I think venison?? We would do it again. The desserts were also very yummy!!!

AngiePangie8:Hi fellow FREAP! I saw this and I think we will be going there too. When is your trip going to be? We are going in Sept. if they do free DDP again and December if not. I think the breakfast sounds a little better for us.

Hi Marna!
Glad to see you here!
We are going in June (busy season)
DH is a teacher and coach so Summer or Christmas Break are the two main times of the year we can go.
This is our first family trip to WDW!
