Is it really a fun experience at this restaurant? Is the food good?
Thanks

You'll get lots of varying answers (which is good, as it will ulitmately help you make your own decision!), but IME . . .

Was it a "fun experience?" Depends how you define it. We saw SO many princesses, and that was great. Photo session with Belle before seating, and then rotating princesses (Jasmine, Aurora, Snow White, Ariel, Cinderella was at ours, etc). They all took a nice amount of time, talked to our dd's, posed for pictures, signed autograph books, etc. We thought it was a GREAT way to see so many princesses in such a nice atmosphere (no long lines or rush). But, was it a "fun experience?" Not in the way 1900 Park Faire or Chef Mickey's was - no interactive banter or dancing or the like. I don't think that's necessarily what you meant, but just in case!

Was the food good? We went for dinner, and it was the only meal that all 4 adults in our group (me, dh, and my parents) disliked. IMO, it was very, very bland and somewhat oddly seasoned for our tastes (it is "norweigian" I suppose?). The pork shank (I believe?) had very little flavor except for cinnamon. I think they've since made some tweaks to the menu (I know we're not the only ones who didn't love it) and perhaps it's better? We won't be finding out - we're going for a pre-rope drop breakfast there next trip!

HTH a bit!

free picture with Belle! interaction with multiple Princesses!!!! Good food(Love the potatos)!!!! I loved it:) I have been there twice now for breakfast and I would most definitely go back again! In my opininon it was a great experience, go for it!!!

If you have a little girl or just love princesses yourself I would definitely do it. It's cheaper than the princess meals at Cinderella's Royal Table and (IMO) there is a lot more character interaction at Akershus. The food is okay...it's a basic breakfast buffet...so I personally wouldn't go there just for the food alone. The reason I go is that I have a 3 year old who absolutely LOVES princesses. She had a wonderful time during our last trip, taking photos with all of her favorites. I did make a reservation for our next trip at the end of this month and she's already very excited about it. She'll be wearing her 'Belle' dress this time so that she can match when she has her photo taken with Belle before breakfast. There are LOTS of princesses so I do think it's worth it if that's what you're looking for.

We went last year around Valentines day. My children were 2,4 and 13. The pictures were awesome. And the princesses do spend a good bit of time with you and your family. However, I was not impressed with the food at all. My kids totally wasted that expensive meal, lol.

It was worth it for the experience. But it was not so good for the food. For 2 adults and three children it was pricey....but once I saw the looks on the kids faces, I got over it! Would I do it again? No.

. . . no interactive banter . . .

Actually, thinking about it today, I have to amend that "banter" part . . .

My older dd was 5.5yo when we went to Akershus dinner and she got to see "Ariel with legs" (in her wedding gown, rather than mermaid tail). My dd eyed her up and down, very slowly and seriously, one time, and asked . . .

"So, was he worth it?!?"

:rotfl:

(from the child who thinks it'd be the most grand thing in the world to be a mermaid, lol, ah the grass/seaweed is always greener, eh?")

Akershus is defineitely on our don't miss list. We loved the food at breakfast: Family style eggs, potatoes, and sausage. Plus a nice buffet with fruit, pastries, cheeses, meats, smoked salmon, etc.

When we were there last June, we saw Belle, Cinderella, Ariel, Aurora, and Snow White! Defintely a highlight of our trip.

It's a must-do breakfast for us. Very good princess interaction, photo included, and yummy potatoes! The rest of the food was ok, standard eggs and bacon, but the cold buffet is very nice as well, with fresh fruit and danish.

We went there for supper last summer. I honestly did NOT expect to enjoy the food. I signed up for this one for the princesses.

The princess interaction was GREAT. My oldest was so excited that Ariel was going to tell Flounder all about meeting them. ;)

The food. Oh my, the food... I thought the idea of a lunch meat type salad bar sounded less than appetizing. I was wrong. All of us could have ate our whole meal off that salad bar. The food we ordered was delish. DH ordered a pork chop and it had some sort of potato with it - super yummy...and raising pork ourselves, we have somewhat high standards. :lmao: I ordered the salmon and it was excellent. The girls ordered hot dogs and loved them. I was impressed that the hot dogs didn't look like your run of the mill Oscar Meyer type dogs. They actually looked tasty. They had a chocolate mousse on the menu that the girls & DH gobbled up. I enjoyed the school bread.

If I can ever convince DH to go back to Disney, this is high on my list of meals to make it too!

Happy planning!

For children who want to meet the princesses, a meal at Akershus is an fantastic experience. It will perhaps be the most memorable moment of their entire vacation! That's the appeal of this restaurant, and if you have a kid who fits that description, I strongly recommend making a reservation.

The food is a secondary concern in this instance. The reviews are generally mixed. I ate at Akershus for dinner a few years ago and enjoyed the meal, but it didn't inspire me to return for any reason but to take a little princess to meet her costumed counterparts.

We just went for dinner about 2 weeks ago. We have a son but did it for the experience of eating at the Norwegian Castle (my brother in law is Norwegian). It was great!! The food was really good. My husband and mom had the kjottkake and my dad and I had the salmon in mustard sauce. This was after a cold appetizer bar that was a meal in itself. The deserts were really good as well.

The added bonus was that my son loved the princesses and they paid a lot of attention to him. We had Snow White (who gave him a huge red kiss), Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Mary Poppins plus Belle at the door. The picture of us with Belle is our favorite of the trip.

So in a nutshell, yes, to me it is well worth it. Oh and the castle is really neat looking inside.
