Can anyone tell me about the food and atmosphere here?
It is a buffet right? I've never seen anything posted about this place and my kids always mention wanting to try it...

We were at Akershus a few weeks ago and it's part buffet and part sit-down. You go in, and can get your picture taken-Belle was our Princess. Then they take you to a table and a server takes your drinks order and explains the buffet. It it a cold appetizer buffet with salads, lunch meats and cheeses, rolls, peel and eat shrimp and 3 different kinds of salmon. You can find plenty to eat on the buffet. They also have a menu, and you choose an entree off of the menu. I had the pork chop and it was awesome. There are 4 Princesses that rotate-we had Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White and Ariel. They then bring out a family style dessert place with school bread, rice cream and chocolate mousse. Everything there is delicious!

The atmosphere inside is like a Norwegian Castle. Gorgeous both inside and outside. I loved this meal. Even DH enjoyed his meal, and had fun, even though he was totally against it at first.

Like the previous poster stated, it is a sit down dinner, where you order off a menu, and then there is a buffet for appetizers. The food was kind of out there for my family. The 17 y/o ended up ordering a cheese pizza off the kids menu. The 15 y/0 that normally will eat anything, wasn't fond of his food, and we had to eat again at the resort when we got back. My chicken was ok.

However, the princess interaction was amazing! They spent a lot of time with us. Jasmine even came around 2X....she was my son's favorite! She was teasing him like she was going to eat his food, and she commented on his outfit and all kinds of stuff! At EPCOT, our princesses were Belle(photo op), Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderlla, and Ariel.

So even though the food was so-so, I'd recommend it if you want to meet the princesses.

We did it once for breakfast 3 yrs ago and once for dinner 2 years ago. That being said, I don't think we could do the lunch or dinner again :rotfl: We just could not get into the food.... just not appealing at all :( Breakfast was fine since it was the basic breakfast food :thumbsup2 The princess interaction was great though :)

We have enjoyed the food here for both lunch and dinner. My dd is a picky eater and she likes the pizza and some of the cold buffet. I always order the Kjottkake (sp?), it's like a meatloaf meatball with mashed potatoes. Plus they have a "family style" dessert which includes school bread. We have had good service everytime we have eaten here. The princess character interaction is great too. Belle remembered my daughter from a previous trip which made her day!:cloud9:

So reading these comments and this all being said...

Which is better??? Food and characters...

Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner???

I was thinking early breakfast before park opens or right at park opening??

But maybe the lunch or dinner is better??

IMHO, and of course it's all personal preference, we wouldn't go back for llunch or dinner, but we love the breakfast and the interaction with characters is one of the best there is.

Great to know!! That was my plan...so I think I will stick with that. I have heard this a lot...and yes, I know...it is all a matter of preferance. Appreciate your opinion though!!

I booked a late breakfast as I was quite sure that I wouldn't like lunch or dinner.

I wasn't sure I'd like dinner, and when we go back, I'd like to try for a breakfast. I tried and tried though to no avail. So dinner it was! I am a picky eater myself-I steered clear of the salmon and herring....YUCK! But I ordered a YUMMY pork chop and DH had the meatball thingys-I thought they were pretty good.

If you have daughters then it is a great place to get photos and autographs with several princesses at one time. Usually 4 to 5 of them every time that we have gone Cinderella was there. Both my DD where surprised and happy to see her there.
