I just booked akershus dinner and was wondering if anybody had new opinions, reviews, or pictures of it. I'll be giving up the garden Grill dinner I had reservations for. Just wanted some talking into (or out of) before I cancel my garden Grill.

Thanks.

popcorn:: Hi, me, wife & 2 kids (3-5) went to both places last year.Akershus was great as far as the characters but the food was norwegian & nobody liked it even friends that were at the same dinner I left there still hungry, portions are small too. As for the Garden grill it was A+. We have booked another trip for march 2009 we won't be doing Akershus for sure. My opinion is go for the Garden grill .

Here's a different opinion. (You'll probably get a different one for each person that answers, everyone has different tastes and restaurants have good/bad nights!:) ) We had a very good meal for our dinner in June. Everyone at our table really enjoyed our entrees. One of the better meals of our trip. We are definitely planning on returning next year.

Don't know who you have with you in your party (kids, boys/girls, ages?) so that might be a factor in choosing. We also did GG (Chip and Dale are my daughters favorites!) so this is a must do for us. Had a great time there too.

Guess that doesn't help you in deciding too much since we loved both! Sorry, but both were highlights of our trip and they are two very different types of experiences.

Photo in my signature is from the package that is included in your meal at Akershus.:)

Are the entrees all you can eat? I thought I read somewhere that you can order another entree one at a time.

I've heard different things about whether you can order more or not. We are on the dining plan so I figure we won't exactly be hurting for food.

I still can't decide 100%. I was very set on Garden Grill, but we are already doing Chef Mickey's as well. I have two daughters and although the older daughter claims she doesn't care about princesses she talks about jasmine and ariel a lot. My 4 year old daughter loves the princesses.

Here are our current ADRs.

Akershus or Garden Grill (dinner)
Le Cellier (dinner)
Crystal Palace (breakfast)
Kona (lunch)
Sci Fi (dinner)
1900s park fare (dinner)
Chef Mickey's (dinner)

For dinner there is a cold buffet that you can go back to and then you order your entree from a menu like you would at a regular restaurant, one entree per person. Dessert is like a sampler tray with several different selections, one tray per table. Below is the dinner menu from allears.net

Although I've never had anything close to resembling Norweigen food, it looks like my husband and I could find something to make us happy. This one is really more for the kids and the princess stuff. I'd rather eat with furry characters and I'm almost ashamed to admit that I don't even know who Aurora and Mulan are. I thought eating with Mickey twice might be fun but that might take the fun out of chef Mickey's if they have already "been there done that" you know? My kids don't even talk about Mickey mouse either. I'm sure that after disney they will.

Since we are doing the DDP, I find myself not too concerned if I don't just LOVE one meal because I know I will eat more than my fair share at another. If their salad bar is decent then it doesn't sound like I could be completely unhappy. I can totally fill up on salad and cheeses. Is the salad bar pretty good? I probably wouldn't care at all about the food if it wasn't our first meal. By the end of the week I'll be fooded out.

Thanks for the menu.

Debbie

I had never had Norwegian food either, but my whole family enjoyed the meal there. I had the Kjottkake which is just basically meatloaf, not exotic at all. I didn't eat too much from the cold buffet (I was saving room for dessert;) )

Your kids will love the character meals, sometimes DD6 is so excited she doesn't eat much. And I agree, you probably will end up being "fooded out". By the end of our trip my DH complained when I would tell him it was time to eat!:rotfl:

Hope you and your family have a wonderful trip!:goodvibes

Thanks for all your help. The picture of your daughter is very pretty. My daughter's dance recital costume in May (older daughter) was snow white and it is a very high quality costume but since the trip is a total surprise I'm not sure if it is worth packing to bring. Since it will be our first day there and she is very self conscious about what others are thinking and doing she will probably completely freak out at the thought of wearing her costume. And of course if I bring that I'm going to have to go out and buy and bring one for my younger daughter as well.

You are very welcome (for the help), and thanks for the compliment on DD's picture!

Just so you know, there will be a lot of girls dressed up in princess dresses. Some will have come from BBB, (which is what we did) but some will just have brought along their costume. To save money DD was Belle for Halloween and we just brought that dress along. This year she will be Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) for Halloween and that dress will go with us next year as well. My DD insisted on wearing her dress the whole day in the heat of June. She got a lot of extra attention from CM's, one even asked her to sign his autograph book!

I'm not saying you shouldn't show up without a costume, but since you said your oldest might be self conscious, I wanted you to know that she would not be the only one dressed up if that is what she felt like doing. She will be fine either way!:) If you are flying (we drive), I can seen how it would be a pain to pack.

I second this, the character part of it was fabulous but the food itself was awful, it was our last dinner on the DP and we ate like kings the rest of the week, we were sadly disappointed by this restaurant, and were wondering if that's why the princess'es were brought there, the food itself is no draw.

Oh my gosh! I am so glad I read this thread. We have dinner ressies our first night and I didn't know that you got pictures! Now I have to decide what the kids will wear!!

My DH is Norweigan and we are always having some strange Norse food. I'm sure we will feel right at home. Plus I chose the dinner menu because I didn't like the breakfast or lunch menus.
