ok, so the first thing people suggest is to ride the safari first thing in the morning. so why is it that the UG doesn't have you ride it until the middle of your trip??? i was going to us the UG as a guide, but this throws everything off. so where do you go next after the safari? which land?

I like to do the bird show when I'm in that area. I always like to look for DeVine on my way there. :goodvibes

The answer to your question is in the question itself. You say that the first attraction most people suggest is Kilimajaro Safari, but UG says do it later. Think about it -- if most people do it when they first get to AK, then the attraction will be the most crowded early in the day. By the middle of the day, fewer people are just arriving at AK. If most of the people in the park have already done the safari, then there won't be many people in line there later in the day. Does that make better sense to you now?

BUT the price you pay for going later in the day is the animals are less active during the hot afternoon. SO, if you get there AT park open you can walk onto the ride - at least during July 4th week when we were there it was like that. . . the first few minutes a lot of people are taking pictures of the tree and figuring out where to go - if you haul booty there, you can get right on and then go with the rest of your UG plan.

I say to head directly to Everest first or be prepared to wait a while!

I was there for Pres. Weekend last year, and we were running late, and missed hitting the safari first thing in the morning. By a couple of hours after park opening, the *fast pass* wait in line was over half an hour!

My plan would be:
Grab EE Fastpasses (if you do thrill rides, and this one is great!)
Head straight to the Safari
Afterwards, I'd do Pangani Forest, since it is right there.

In the winter months when it's less crowded and cooler, I don't make such a beeline for the safari. I take my time in the Oasis trails on the way in, but still go straig to the safari. Having the animals more active makes a huge difference! (Try to do the Maharajah trek early, too- the tigers are usually just sleeping if it is hot or later in the day)

My two cents. The animals are just as visible in the afternoon as in the morning. Now I should say I have not gone in the heat of summer ... but let's be real. The animals are "contained" -- you might not see it but they are! And you can see them no matter what. OK - the big cats might be asleep but if you look at little cats, believe me chances are they will be asleep anyway.

We usually rush for EE (fast pass) ... do Dinoland, go back to EE (or get FP for Safari if by that time allowed to)... do EE ... see bird show, walk trails ... eat lunch ... and ride safari.

Have fun! :sunny:

Well-we always do the Safari first, and our wait is usually 1/2 hour. We then do Kali River, and Mrs U then does Expedition Everest. When we're leaving the park in the early afternoon, the "wait" time at the Safari seems to always be 1/2 hour to an hour.

Here's what our family of four just did on a very crowded Thanksgiving week:

1. DP ran ahead and got FPs for EE
2. The rest of us met and her there and rode it once standby (10 minutes)
3. The got back in line and did it FP
4. We walked next door and watched the Nemo show (super)
5. We walked next door and rode dinosaur (no big line yet, everyones at the Safari or EE)
6. We got FPs for the Safari
7. We sat down at 11 a.m. and had a brewski and snack while watching two shows, then continued sitting there and split a meal.
8. We sauntered over to the Safari and enjoyed a nice ride with animals that were still frisky.
9. The we did more stuff ...

Very civilized, very fun! No line more than 10 minutes.

Let's see - cat #1 asleep, cat #2 asleep, cat #3 asleep, cat #4 asleep, cat #5 (let me check under the bed) asleep. First four are laying in sunspots.

We have been on the Safari in the summer time (June and August). We never get to Animal Kingdom until about noon. We usually do the safari when the parade is going on.

We usually watch the afternoon parade in Harambe. When the parade ends, we get in line for Kilimanjaro Safari. Usually, the majority of the people are leaving the park at that time, so we walk right on.

We usually do the Safari later in the day, whenever we get 'over there' is fine. However, I kept reading the reports of "go first" and you'll see more animals. So, in October we did it first. I got fastpasses for Everest and met everyone at the Safari. We didn't see any more animals than at any other time we've done it. It wasn't super hot that day, low 80s, but the walking back and forth was a pain. We won't do it that way again. I'm going back to getting there when I get there. ;)

I'm not sure if that's true or not cause I've done AK at different times of day and I've seen less in the morning. Did it last year about 2 or 3 and had animals right near the vehicle and saw quite a bit more animals out than I had since i've started riding it.

You stole the thought out of my head! ;)

After all that bumping and jarring, we usually do the "porcelain" ride directly afterwards! :rotfl2:
