AK touring question?

When planning your AK day would you rather go to AK on the day that works best for your trip or on the day that you are able to get a FoP FP+? We would like to go to AK on our 60+2 day, but I am assuming our best bet at getting a FoP FP+ would be on our 60+4 day. I am just curious as to what others have done or what they are planning to to. Our FP window opens up soon, so I am just trying to figure out our priorities. Thanks!

I changed our AK day to make it easier to get FP at 60+3 out. For us, that was switching our AK and HS days. It won't guarantee a FP for FOP, but I'm hoping we can at least get something.

We go the day we can get FoP FP
Everything else can fit in around that.

I think your sentence here should dictate what you do. if FOP is a priority for you, then move your AK date to a later date. If it's not and going on 60+2d is a priority, then make that your AK date.

For the record, I our AK was date was on 60+1d by default because:
1. we wanted to do DHS on our arrival day as it was a shorter day and figured if any park could be done in a shorter day, it would be DHS.
2. MK was 60+2 because that was our only non-MVMCP date we could attend and I really wanted us to see HEA.
3. Epcot ended up being 60+3d due to availability to Akershus (a priority for my 2yo daughter)
4. I wanted MK to be our last day (60+4d) out as I wanted us to go to 'Ohana and leave WDW with that magical feeling only MK can do.

So that left AK being 60+1d. I knew getting FP for FOP was going to be a challenge but with our daughter not tall enough to ride it and our 5yo having never watched Avatar, it wasn't the biggest priority for me as a family. Although, I'm still hoping we can RD it as I really want to go on it, but i'm not going to cry if we can't as it wasn't priority #1 for us as a family.

My answer depends on whether you have hoppers or not. You could leave AK at 60+2, try for FP+ for that, but if you don't get them, then just hop to/from AK around the time you do get them.

If you don't have hoppers, then I would make two plans before FP+ day. Make your ideal plan with AK at 60+2 and go for that first. Then have plan B for AK on 60+4 ready if you need it.
