We're considering an 8 day stay at AK next Feb./March, our previous experience is with BoardWalk. First, do I need to nail this down 11 months in advance as with BW? Do the AK units resemble the BW studios, with 'fridge, microwave, toaster, etc.? Any info on the AK standard studio DVC rentals would be appreciated.

Thanks,

AKV standard studios will all be pool view or parking lot view at Jambo House. All DVC studios are basically the same except for size. They will contain a small fridge, a microwave, a toaster, coffee maker, and at Jambo there will be 1 queen bed and 1 full size sleep sofa. If you opt for a value view room, you COULD get a savanna view (not guaranteed), but your room will be smaller than a standard or savanna view room. I would say you do want to do this as close to 11 months as you can, so you could be doing that right now.

Currently there are just the converted rooms in the Lodge 5&6th floors (Jambo House). The standard rooms at Jambo are all overlooking the pool area and may also overlook Boma's roof. Below is a map that LisaS make of AKL and the different view categories.

The new building (Kidani) maybe opening by the time you wish to travel but no one really knows. The standard view in that building will be parking lot or pool. You will be able to reserve Jambo or Kidani.

As far as if you need to book at 11 months... I don't know if we really have enough history to answer that one. (not sure if I have enough history to answer either) It maybe easier then some resort because they will be declaring more rooms into inventory as they sell.

There are four booking levels in Jambo House (the Lodge building): Value (smaller rooms with views of a savanna or the pool or the parking lot), Standard View (overlooks the pool area), Savanna View (what the name implies -- you can see the animals from your balcony) and Concierge (includes Concierge services). The Standard View, Savanna View and Concierge studios are similar in size to the BW studios. The Value studios are about 40 sq. ft. smaller. Most of the AKV studios are Savanna View, followed by Standard View, Value and Concierge. Given the small number of rooms in Jambo House booking early is advisable. As others have already said, part of Kidani could open between now and your vacation dates. However in Kidani, a Standard View will have a view of a pool, garden or parking lot so you risk getting a parking lot view if you book there instead of Jambo House.

The biggest difference between AKV studios and those in BWV is that the AKV studios provide a wardrobe for your hanging clothes rather than that big closet you had in your BWV studio. Some of the AKV studios have a little broom closet for the vacuum cleaner and ironing board but many do not in which case those items will also be in the wardrobe. The AKV studios have a flat screen TV so they have a dresser with the TV hanging on the wall above it rather than one of those big TV armoires -- that helps to open up the room a bit.

no answer, sorry as I am new to DVC but just wanted to say I noticed your screen name, Wilkes Barre is about 40 minutes from us. Just wanted to say HI to a fellow PAer.
