AK quick serve - now I can't decide!

I had been assuming we would eat at FT for lunch on our upcoming trip, because BBQ is one of DH's favorite foods. He's fairly picky and eats like a lot of kids - burgers, chicken nuggets, etc, and does LOVE his pulled pork. But I was looking over the menu and, now that DS is a bigger, hungrier teen, the kids chicken leg meal isn't gonna cut it, and he isn't likely to eat anything else there. And honestly, as much as I LOVE BBQ ribs, on our last visit the food wasn't nearly as good as expected. When I mentioned to DH that I wasn't sure what DS would eat at FT, he quickly said "Lets not eat there, then!" Surprised me, as I thought HE was the one who loved the place!

So now I'm torn. Yak & Yeti was suggested, and I am a fan of Asian, and both my boys will eat fried rice (and probably supplement with an egg roll or two if needed, we can be big eaters!) But now I've read some pretty poor reviews of the QS there. Any other decent QS at AK? The new place in Pandora seems a bit exotic for DH. Or would you just do Yak & Yeti in my situation? I just don't want to be disappointed in over cooked ribs and greasy chicken at FT again.

You don't think your husband and sons would like the Bao buns at Satuli Canteen? They do have some exotic foods, but a lot of people have said that their Cheeseburger Bao Buns taste a lot like McDonald's cheeseburgers. You can get a McDonald's cheeseburger for $10.99 in Pandora. That's exciting, right? :P

I also like Pizzafari. They have some interesting flatbreads for the more exotic eaters, but they also have the plain cheese and pepperoni flatbreads.

Those Bao Buns don't even LOOK appetizing to me!! :crazy2: The bowl things they have (can't remember what they call them) actually sound kind of appealing - though I'm curious if you could order, for example, the sauce on the side. Are the flatbreads at Pizzafari a true flatbread? I saw a pic online that just looked like a kids size cheese pizza that was labeled as a "cheese flatbread", but I'm hoping that was just an old photo! Ugh, sometimes traveling with a picky eater can be a huge pain in the butt (especially when it's an adult and you want to tell them just to deal with it lol!!)

There's Restraurantosaurus. It's just your standard food, burger, chicken sandwich and nuggets, etc. But it has the topping bar to help make things a little more interesting. We've eaten there before and it's always been fine. We typically just choose where to eat quick service whereever we are when everyone is hungry, but typically no one is THAT picky of an eater in our group. The last couple trips have been in August though which means I need air conditioning, so at AK that kind of leaves us at Restraurantosaurus or Pizzafari. (Or now Satuli Canteen I guess, although in general this isn't wowing my kids I don't think.) And yes, you can order the sauce on the side at Satuli Canteen.

Ha! I think the bao buns look wonderful. Can't wait to try all of them (even the breakfast one).

I think that Pizzafari had a menu change somewhat recently. Maybe they used to offer regular pizza and now it looks like just flatbreads. In my experience, many Disney flatbreads just seem like rectangle shaped pizzas. I like them, though.

I know what it's like to go with picky eaters. I rarely ever get to eat what I want. I'm heading to The World for my first solo trip in a couple of weeks and one of the things I am most looking forward to is finally eating where I want to eat and ordering what I want to order. :woohoo:

Woohoo......just showed DH a picture of the delicious looking bowl from Satuli Canteen, and he has agreed to try it!! We can just order sauce on the side, just in case. And even DS will eat chicken over rice with some veggies involved :-)

Satuli canteen is very good. People are saying other restaurants probably have never been to satuli canteen.

I like Restaurantosaurus, and I will tell you why. It's air-conditioned, which is HUGE in Florida, especially if you come in the summer. Also, it's the only QS in AK with self-serve beverages, so you can re-fill your drink as much as you want. The theming is also really cute (dinosaur dig) and the music is all about dinosaurs, extinction, etc.

The food is not exotic, but it's consistently good. You can order the burger or the chicken sandwich without the bacon or cheese (and they will charge you less) then you can dress it up at the toppings bar. They have chili, different cheeses (including crumbled blue cheese--great on a burger), sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, suateed peppers, as well as all kinds of fresh vegetables, relishes, and sauces. I like to just get order of fries and make my own custom smothered fries at the toppings bar. Definitely do not order chili-cheese fries, since they have both chili and cheese available for no extra charge.

If you go be sure to look in all of the rooms, there's a different theme in each. We notice something new every time we go.

I also like the food at Yak & Yeti, but you have to sit outside and drinks don't come with refills. It's nice to relax in air-conditioned comfort for a while, rehydrate, and listen to some fun dinosaur music. I think it's a refreshing and recharging lunch spot.

Thank you for the great advice! I will definitely look into this as well. Since AK doesn't have an abundance of shade and cool spots, an air conditioned inside eating area could be nice

The mobile ordering at Satu'li is so convenient, and the food was delicious. It was my husband's favorite meal of the trip-- he liked it better than any of our TS.

I don't know if you can ask for sauce on the side with mobile ordering, but you can do "no sauce." And you could ask for a side of sauce when you pick your food up. We were able to request well done for the beef online, though, so that was nice. The bowls are HUGE. I only ate half. I would have ordered the kids' size, but the options are more limited on the kids' menu bowls. Next time I will share with my daughter.

The cheeseburger bao buns really do taste like cheeseburgers from McDonald's. They also have cheese quesadillas on the kids' menu-- another choice for picky eaters.

Both desserts are yummy and beautiful, too.

We had no trouble finding a table for five at 12:15 on a Sunday in the air conditioned seating area. The drinks here are self serve as well.

I'd stick to Yak and Yeti portions are huge both inside at the TS location and outside at the QS if you eat at the TS they have ribs that weren't super fatty, they claim the ribs are "Korean" but are as Americanized as it possibly could be.
