We had an incident recently at our home where our DD12, who is hard of hearing, didn't hear our fire alarm go off. Our alarms are hard wired, call the fire department automatically, and are LOUD. She sat in the family room and missed the burning pizza and alarms completely....scared the holy bejabbers out of me realizing the danger. Got quite the lecture from the fire captain who arrived on our doorstep (I was out in the yard, didn't realize until too late what was happening). Only good thing....boy was he cute! If I was only 20 (okay 30) years younger! However, we are now figuring out how to put strobe lights in our house.

So, my question. We will be at AK lodge next week for the AAU track tournament (her brother is running). Do all the rooms have the strobe lights, or do I need to make a special request? I don't worry about the door, because if we aren't there, she shouldn't be opening it anyway and WE should have a key!!!

Thanks......oh, and has anyone tried the new PDA-like devices? We are on a back-up hearing aide for the bad ear (puppy accident). She has been several times before, so she knows the gist of the shows, but if it works we might get it. We have used the GAC for preferred seating for better hearing in shows, so we know about that option.

Thanks!!!!!

public areas and HC rooms are supposed to have visual alarm indication, but it is always good to double check.

I know that all the wheelchair accessible rooms we have had recently have had them (practically scared us to death since we had not noticed it until after it went off when someone rang the doorbell of our room).
Not all rooms have them, but they can put what they call a ‘Room Communication Kit’ into your room. You can call:
Special Reservations Line: (407) 939-7807
This is the number for making all types of special needs - rooms and tours.

For the other question, LockShockBarrel posted a link recently to a blog about the new device.

If your DD decides to try it out, I’d really appreciate her opinion (and maybe a few pictures, if it’s not too much trouble).

Thanks

I prefer the interpreters over the PDA devices myself. I find it difficult to enjoy the rides and shows and read at the same time. Also they sometimes seem out of sync with the ride audio and since I am hard of hearing that can really get on my nerves.
