Most JH Standard Views are on the Zebra Trail and face the Uzima Pool. If you request the Kudo Trail, you could end up with a partial/obstructed view of the Sunset Savanna.

The hallways in Jambo are named after African animals, thus Giraffe & Ostrich trails - where the DVC value villas are, & Zebra & Kudu trail where standard & savanna views are located. Both species of Kudu are large antelopes. I don’t know what the villas above the lobby are called - since I’ve never been in one (I’ve been on Kudu & Zebra trail multiple times.)

Not IME, I’ve overlooked all 3 savannas in both standard & savanna views & there’s no poles obstructing the views. The standards that abut a savanna tend to overlook the people pens or only overlook a smaller part of the savanna though. People pen standards both on Kudu.

Arusha savanna villas aren’t standards because there are no people pens on Arusha & no arms of the lodge jutting out into that savanna limiting views from some villas.

As the map provided above indicates, standard view rooms at Jambo have either pool view or savanna view and a little more than half the standard view rooms have savanna view. In some cases, the view has the people pen issue but for most, the views are actually decent and many rooms are nearly as good as many savanna view rooms.

As far as a room location request through MS goes, the best one to make if you have standard view and want a savanna view, is to request a room on the Kudo Trail side of building, because all standard view rooms on that side have savanna view.

At Jambo House DVC now, Room 5382. Studio partial savannah view. My first home resort stay on 1 year new blue card membership. So disappointing! Walls seem paper thin. Could hear neighbors talking to 2am and snoring after that - 2 days in row. I realize these DVC rooms at Jambo are converted hotel rooms but this is crazy. Staff has been great and animal views off balcony so stunning! Getting new room tonight. Wish me luck. Maybe Kidani would have been better.

I'm reading conflicting information from Touring Plans. Touring Plans normally is reliable but it seems to list all DVC rooms in Kudu Trail as "Savanna View", even rooms that are buried in the corner such as 5210:




If I paid for a Savana View, I'd be disappointed with this view. But I'd be happy with it if I paid for a Standard View.

My daughter had a Standard View room in Kudu Trail and her view seemed to be about as good as our Savana View room that was further down the hall. This is a zoomed in view from our room:

^That map shown above @syndral is accurate. Originally, the only rooms that were standard view were those around the pool at Jambo (perhaps Touring Plans is still relying on old maps). Effective 2012, DVC changed a large number of rooms from savanna view to standard view, thus creating a lot of standard view rooms, including many overlooking Kudo Trail. The number of standard view rooms at Jambo that now have savanna view is more than the number of original standard view rooms around the pool.

I usually request a savanna view. But one time I was a little short on points so reserved a standard view. I got #5322, on the Sunset Savanna, and it had more animals than some of the savanna views I had previously had. The people pen wasn't right below me-it was off to the right.

I’ve read that DVC reclassified those rooms from savanna to standard because they received so many complaints about the poor view of the savanna!
