now with FOP open is animal kingdom's EMH much more crowded. is it worth doing or has it become a typical rope drop with everyone going nuts to reach FOP

Yes, EMH is much more crowded but the vast majority of people are heading to Pandora and specifically FoP. If you use EMH for anything other FoP you will have great success and you don't have to arrive nearly as early. If FoP is a priority during EMH I'd recommend getting there no later than 7:15, if not, 7:45 will work just fine.
