Is is possible to do both in one day? We are thinking of doing DS during an am EMH and hopping over to AK after lunch or a little later. We don't expect to do everything, just the things a 4 year old would enjoy. We have a great zoo near our house that we visit alot, so we are not really interested in seeing the animals as much or about the big rides in either place. AK closes at 7 the night we are planning on going. So, is 8-1pm enough time in DS and 2-7pm enough time in AK to experience everything a 4 year old girl would like? Any suggestions for touring options? We currently are booked for Sci Fi for lunch at 11:40.

As long as you all are up to the task of an almost 12 hours of park time, you could technically see most of the things that would interest a 4 year old at both of these parks with this plan. A lot will depend on how many stage shows that you hope to see at MGM. AK is my favorite park. I would think that you could find plenty to do with a 4 year old there too with all the shows and the animals. Good luck with this. I don't know that I would be so brave as to try to stay out in parks all day with a 4 year old, but you know what you kid is capable of handling. Happy Planning! Maggie

Think they are talking about Disney Studio aka "MGM"

Yes, the Unofficial Guide uses DS as the abbreviation for MGM on it's calendar.

AK can definitely be done in half a day. I honestly thought most of it was a bore. MGM however, had quite a bit that my 5 and 3 year old loved and we made it a point to plan an entire day for our next trip, with the option of going back another day. It's a tough call. How long is your trip, what are your other plans?

I think you would be better off doing it the other way around. Most of MGM is shows and you won't be able to see them if you leave that early.

We take full advantage of our park hoppers.Split parks basically every day. AK is a very large place so i think you should really take that into consideration. It is doable but tiring- I speak from experience.

My daughter is pretty durable. We went to the beach over the 4th and she lasted from 7am until 10pm, without a single whine. We were out in the sun for about 4 hours and walking up and down the boardwalk for about 8 hours!
Also, my DH and I are runners, so I am not worried about us tiring out.

Like I said in my OP, we are not going to AK to see the animals, just to experience the rides, shows, etc. I plan on getting my DD a stroller for both parks and will let her decide if she wants to walk, or nap at all. The reason we are going to DS in the am is because of EMH and we want to have lunch at Sci Fi.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I think I'd flip it, too. If your dd wants to see playhouse disney, voyage of the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, etc., most of those don't even start until 10:00 or 11:00. The theaters are pretty large, so you shouldn't have a problem getting in, even later in the day.

And over at AK, the safari ride closes really early (before 5:00) and they seem to run out of fastpasses pretty early in the day (probably because they close early so they give out less), so we always have trouble getting them when we arrive in the afternoon.

The animals are more active during the morning at AK, too. I may have missed it, but did you say when you're going? DH and I went last September, and did every major ride at MK (didn't do Dumbo or Ariel's grotto, but did do Small World, Peter Pan, Pooh and Splash Mountain, among all the others) in about 4 hours....granted, that's a 25 and 30 year old, but mid September has the absolute best crowds....that time of year you could easily do all the kid things in one day.
