Has anyone upgraded to business class when checking in for a flight? Do you know how much it costs?

Yes and it depends on the length of the flight - there is a chart on the website (somewhere) that explains the fee for upgrading at check in.

Thank you, I found the chart, I did email them to find out if I would get credit towards the $69 for the $15 I paid for my seat

It's also my understanding you get at least one piece of luggage checked for free too! My sister always factors that into the cost since they have to check a bag for my nephew and figure it's really not costing them that much more!

I figured that in, even if I don't get the $15 back for the seat I already bought (which I am not counting on) it is only costing us $44 more then just checking the luggage and we get better seats. lol

I always upgrade to business on Airtran. Two free check in bags. And you will get your $15 credited. I always get my $20 for exit row credited. Great flying Airtran, will be so sad to see them gone soon.

I just upgraded today at $89 per seat from IND to MCO. A little pricy, but it was a splurge. It was actually a gift to my Mom and Dad. We figured they'd be spending $100 on luggage anyway...and we had already spent $12 on seat fees, and that was credited to us. So, altogether, it was $66 more than they would have spent anyway on the baggage fees, $33 per person.

I am not saying I would do it every single flight ever. But, I didn't get them anything on their anniversary or Mom's birthday...I figured an upgrade to business class was a decent gesture.

Can I piggyback on this thread a little bit? Business class gets two checked bags. Do the checked bags have to be in the specific passenger's name, or can we leave the tags for the actual bags' owners on the outside?

I know you purchased the business class upgrade when you checked in but for the future.... We have actually waited too check in until we get to the airport and have gotten a lower upgrade rate for business class. We have done it twice at curbside check in and once at the ticket counter. You do take a chance that no more business class seats will be available at that time though. And we have always paid for assigned seats so just in case all are sold out. We once got two person upgrades for $29 total and another time for $29 per person. I guess if the plane is full it is easier to upgrade people for a bargain and free up more seats....

Each passenger gets two free check in bags. Whatever actual name is on the bag means nothing.
