I am thinking of booking Airtran for the last week of August. I have never flown them. They have a webfare which is great but they don't assign seats. What are my chances of sitting with my DH and DS or will we be separted. Any has anyone ever flown out of White Plains. How is it to leave from there. Michelle

You can book your seats online up to 24 hours prior to departure. I always go in at the 24 hour mark and have never had a problem getting seats together as long as I've booked them together. On occasion I've purchased tickets for DH and myself separately and have had to jockey around getting them together. I've never flown out of White Plains, so I can't help you there. Sorry.

We flew Airtran in March. Due to our airfrare being booked through Disney and us getting paper tickets we couldn't check in 24 hours in advance online, we had to check in at the gate. Even with this, all four of us were sitting in a row for both flights.

We flew Airtran for the first time in January. We checked in 24 hours prior and had seats together, no problem at all.

Both flights were on time and we would fly Airtran again without hesitation.

When I checked in 24 hours before the flight I found that we were already sitting together and then also had the option to change our seats, which we did. Wasn't an issue at all. But...then they lost my luggage. Not a big Airtran fan anymore.

Make sure you sign in 24 hours in advance. We did this in Feb., we were all assigned seating together at that time, but we could have moved seating assignments. On our way home, we didn't check in 24 hours in advance, and still had seating together.

If you go on their web site www.airtran.com there is a button/icon for "Online Check-in." You'll need your confirmation number to access it. Then just follow their instructions. Yes, you will be able to pick your seats then. It's very simple. Yes, you can still use skycaps and check your bags curbside. They will even print another boarding pass for you if you've lost yours or just want a fresh one. At my home airport they have special line(s) just for those that checked in on-line because essentially you are printing your luggage tags at that point and handing off your luggage and a quick ID check.
