Does anyone know anything about AirTran? They seem to have the best prices for what I'm looking for. Have they had an okay safety record? probably no food servd on board-which is fine with me. Says that you pick seats when you arrive to board the plane. How sensative are they about famlies traveling with small children 7 and 5 in regard to this issue? Thanks in advance!!

Airtran is fine. They have the newest fleet of any airline out there and they are held to the same FAA regulations when it comes to maintenance... so they are safe.

Complimentary pop and juice on the plane, no food.

Seating assignments are made when you check in (unless you buy a much higher priced ticket, which most don't). The seat assignment can be done online 24 hours in advance when you check in or at the airport. They actually assign seats for you and all people will be together if they are on the same itinerary. If you don't like your seats, you have the option to change them at check in.

Don't worry at all about not having an assigned seat until check in. Most airlines can change your seat assignment if the flight number or aircraft changes anyway.

Have fun!

I agree that AirTran is a good airline with newer planes and very helpful and friendly employees.
The only problem I have had (and many other Dis members) is that they are constantly changing their schedules. We normally take the first flight out in the morning and this only changes a few minutes either way, if at all. However during the day AirTran sometimes makes drastic changes. Last June we debated on whether to take a return flight at 2pm or 4pm. Luckily we decided to stay a little longer at WDW and took the 4pm. Sometime later AirTran removed the 2pm flight from their schedule and had people scrambling. I have read numerous posts about people not knowing about the changes but I have always received an e-mail about it, although it comes way after the changes have been made. Now I check their on-line schedule almost weekly when we fly them to see if anything has changed.
