i'm considering flying airtran. i generally fly southwest and when they damaged my scooter on an inbound flight to mco i was satisfied with how they handled the repair. i've also had american damage my scooter once. i realize no airline is perfect. that said, does anyone have firsthand experience with a scooter or similar device on airtran who can share an opinion of how careful airtran is in the handling? thanks.

I have used Airtran several times with my scooter, and have had no issues at all. Never even a scratch. I don't know how you do it, but it might make a difference in whether you check you scooter in at the counter or at the gate. I always gate check mine.

thanks. we just bought the tix and ended up with united going and southwest coming back. crossing my fingers.

i always gatecheck, too, because otherwise i couldn't get to the gate, lol.

in a weird turn of events, my southwest return flight has been shifted to one operated by airtran! so i guess i'll see how it goes.

at least it's our flight home, so if there's scooter damage it won't interrupt an expensive vacation. and if airtran's customer service isn't helpful (and i have NO reason to suspect they wouldn't be) then i think i also have southwest's customer service to help and i know they are top notch.
