I was finally able to get a great price in December flying down via Southwest, but all the flights home were way out of my budget.

Found a Non-stop perfect timing with AirTran. I know I will have to check a bag, so that is $20.00. How are they with booking with a disability. I did not pay for seats since we don't have to sit together, but I have to be seated without being bumped (physically, not off the flight) and can not carry or put my carry-on up. DH and DS will be with me.

So can you enlighten me on Airtran 2012. Thanks.

If you can't be physically bumped, at all, during the flight, you may want to pay extra to have your son and husband sit on either side of you. I don't think you can be sure that won't happen sitting next to strangers. I know that I, for instance, am a squirmer while on a plane lol.

Yes, I was going to suggest the same. While I have had no issues flying with Airtran I will tell you that it seems much more "crowded" on that plane. I would assume since you cannot lift or carry your carry on that you would not be able to sit in the exit row for the extra room. I know on my last flight I also had a child behind me that kept kicking the seat. Not sure if that would affect you in any way. You way want to seat with either your DS or DH next to you and the other behind you to prevent the bumping. Give them a call, their customer service was excellent any time I had to call them.

I know what you mean about feeling "crowded". I felt so cramped on Airtran. Paid for the upgrade on the return flight and was worth every penny.

I would suggest the upgrade seats or pay for seat assignments for avoiding bumping. Otherwise you run the risk. It is pretty tight.

I suggest that you pay for per-assigned seats and choose a window seat. On the aisle, you will definitely be bumped, and probably in the middle seat as well. You should probably pay for at least one other member of your party to board with you, as they will have to handle your carry on bag for you if you can't carry it yourself.

I would call AirTran now & ask their procedure for disablilities. I don't remember if it was Southwest or AirTran last year, but one of them gave DH & me bulkhead seats (free) because I was on a crutch. However, that time I got it by asking at the gate. So take a cane with you & if you can't get special seats in advance, ask at checkin and/or the gate. Of course, you are risking that all bulkhead seats are taken.

At checkin & the gate, you may ask about 1st class upgrade price too. Bargain with them; don't just accept the 1st offer & be sure to explain the reason. Sometimes it's really cheap, sometimes not.
