So if I transfer airtran to southwest. I only have one credit at Airtran, how many points will I get at Southwest? I tried figuring it out, but am still confused. Thanks in advance.

You can't transfer AT credits to SWA points. Points don't expire but credits do. You can transfer AT credits to SWA credits (old system) Once you get 16 credits, you get an award RT flight on SWA. You can use SWA points at rate of 1200 points per credit to reach 16 credits and reach an award. For example: Say I have 3 SWA credits, and 4 AT credits. I can transfer my AT credits to my SWA account giving me 7 credits total. I'll still need 9 more credits to reach 16 so 9 x 1200=10,800. This is how many SWA points I'll need to convert to credits and reach an award.
Awards under old system are subject to availability & possibly black out dates but don't vary in "price" like awards on the points system. For example: you can use your award to book any RT flight whether it's far such as NY to LA, or close like Philly to Boston.
Under the new system of points, your award uses different point levels depending on cash price of award flight.

All credits transferred from AT to SWA (or vice versa) retain their original expiration dates. You may want to take this into consideration if you don't currently have enough points to reach an award.

I'm hoping to squeeze out 2 standard awards by the end of summer so we can go to Cali next summer. Also AT allows members to transfer AT credits to others for $19/credit. I plan to convert dh & boys to my account, then transfer all to my SWA account and still won't cost near what a RT ticket to Cali would cost.

Hope this makes sense. :goodvibes

It does not seem to be a good deal transferring from SW to Airtran. To travel one way I would need 8 Airtran credits 1200 x 1220 = 9600 SW points. One way flight with SW are running from 7920 to 8700.
I guess it's worth it if you like Airtran's schedule over SW's.

I think it depends where you want to fly to. Points for Philly to San Fran are now around 15,500-25,000 points for the dates I'm looking at, granted, it's for late June but this is still 'wanna get away' fares. Business Select is approaching 62,000. One way.
For flights like this, it's better to have a plain old-fashioned award.

The points system is handy for saving enough for a 1 way to FL and be able to do it or keep saving since they don't expire.
