AirTran to end Moline, Atlantic City, Asheville and Newport News

This will probably affect travel plans for many here. A result of the Southwest merger.

Service to AVL, MLI and ACY ends January 6.

Service to PHF ends March 9.

I wouldn't say it's a result of the SW merger, it would have probably happened anyway, they are all small cities. ACY has always had difficulty maintaining regular service. There used to be non-stops on US PIT-ACY, they dropped it and then Spirit had flights for about a year and dropped it. I don't think any of the majors have service there anymore.

It's without a doubt a result of the merger. Southwest will use the capacity elsewhere.

Spirit never flew PITACY, at least not in the past decade, and Spirit still flies to ACY and has quite a decent operation out of the airport.

Spirit did fly PIT-ACY, I flew them once or twice! Can't remember the year, it may have been over 10 years ago. It only lasted a year as I recall.

Do any of the majors fly into ACY? US used to run a commuter from PHL but that ended a long time ago. I think Delta had a flight from CVG or DTW but that ended. I have a friend who lives in that area, she usually goes to Newark or PHL.

Southwest is also ending all Air Tran flights out of Dallas after Nov 22nd.:sad1: DFW is not a small airport, but our only choice for a nonstop/direct flight to Orlando will now be American Airlines.

Southwest flies out of Dallas Lovefield, but their prices are ridiculous and have layovers in Houston.

You missed the PP point. Its been posted that, in order to avoid "road blocks" to the merger AT avoided dropping cities. The point is AT, probably, would have dropped those cities if the merger hadn't taken place.

The timing is the result of the merger, but those cities (probably) would have been dropped sooner if the merger hadn't taken place.

No, I did not miss the PP's point. I entirely disagree with the idea that these would have discontinued without the merger

In November SWA has a flight from Dallas to Orlando that is $81 each way and you stay on the airplane, no layover.
