Airtran seating question

Hi, We are booked for a flight in November out of PHL to MCO. I noticed that all the seats on the flight are set up with 3 seats on each side of the plane but on the left side(ABC) the middle seats (B) are not available throughout the entire plane. Why would that be? I want to book 2 side by side seats. I don't like to book on the right (DEF) because once on Continental that became the middle of the plane and we lost our window seats.

AirTran doesn't yet know what type of plane it will be using for your flight. Some of their planes are 2x3, some are 3x3. If your plane ends up being the latter, you should still keep the seats you chose. You then have three options and one crazy hope: keep the seats you picked with a stranger between you; give up the aisle seat for the middle seat; give up the window seat; keep your fingers crossed that nobody chooses that middle seat.

Sorry, missed the mention of AirTran in the title.

I want to book 2 side by side seats.

If sitting next to your companion has the highest priority, book aisle seats across from each other. Then the plane configuration doesn't matter.

I don't like to book on the right (DEF) because once on Continental that became the middle of the plane and we lost our window seats.

Aircraft can be changed on any airline. Just because it happened once on another airline doesn't mean it will happen every time you fly.

I'd call Airtran and ask them why. And if you want, you can call 24 hours before your flight and up-grade to business for $50.00. Then you'll only have two seats and they are bigger. We fly out of Philly on Airtran every year in Dec. and upgrade to business. This is why I will have to change airlines in 2012. Not going to fly Southwest where they don't give you an option. I hate to sit three across in those little seats.

AirTran has two type of aircraft. The 717 and 737. The 717 is a 2/3 configuration where the 737 is a 3/3 configuration. AirTran blocks out the B seat so in the event the plan doesn't sell out they can possibly use a 717 instead of a 737 to fly the route. It just makes seat assignments easier in the event of the change. We actually prefer to fly the 717s since we can sit on the 2 side.

You don't need to worry about being in the middle of a plane that has two isles. AirTran (and Southwest) don't have configurations of 2/3/2, 2/5/2 or others where there are two isles.

Thank you all for your quick answers!! I feel much better about picking the seats on the DEF side of the plane. I guess I will keep looking as it gets closer to see if we can move to the other side. As a previous poster said, I like the AB side with the 2 seats.
