AirTran Seat Reservation Question

I really want to reserve seats on our flight so that my family can all sit together on our flight to Orlando next March. I called Disney today for my airline confirmation number. The only thing they gave me was the PRN, which does not bring up the itinerary on AirTran's website. The PRN is a nine characters, all alphabetical and not numerical. AirTran's website says the confirmation number is a seven digit alphanumeric.

So do I:

1)call Disney again for the confirmation number

2)call AirTran with the PRN Disney gave me, and see if I can handle it that way.

3)wait until closer to our departure time, maybe it isn't even available yet?

We've never flown before, and we have no real idea how any of this works.

Thanks!

Call Disney to get your Airtran confirm code.

At this point the only way to confirm seats more than 24 hours before the flight is to pay extra. I think $10-$15 a seat.
At the 24 hour mark, they open it up to everyone to go online and pick a seat.
We get split up every time it seems, but we have older kids and willingly switch seats so families with small children can sit together.
Definitely call Disney for your confirmation number.

Same thing happened to me a while back. I had to call AirTran with the number Disney gave me and AirTran then gave me the reservation number I could use on their site. Disney didnt have the AirTran number that works on the Web site. All Disney had was the travel agent reservation number (Sabre).

Call Airtran and they will be able to help you out.

Question for everyone else. Does Airtran still offer free seat assignments if you book through a Travel Agent? If so, wouldn't Disney be that Travel Agent?

I booked my AirTran flight through Disney and had to pay for my seat assignment. I did that 3 months ago, and just checked it today and saw that they moved me and separated me from my daughter! :headache: They changed the plane model to one that has 3 seats across instead of 2, and put me on the aisle and her by the window with a seat in between. I could see that the middle seat was open, but it wouldn't let me select it. I had to call and get it fixed. They did take care of it for me, but it irritated me that I already paid the $24.00 for my seat assignment, I shouldn't have to double check it and have it fixed when they screw it up.

Yes, if you use a travel agent that books through the travel agent section of airtran.com, they can pick seats for free. Disney doesn't book it that way (they use sabre like someone else mentioned)- so no free seats if you book with them.

They were doing you a favor! and you are mad at them :confused3

If the flight stays with empty seats people rarely will book the middle seat when both other seats are full. Doing this gives you the best chance that you and your Dd would have a row to yourself if the flight wasn't full. If it did fill up I have never met anyone who when they arrived at the row for the middle seat and found out they had the Aisle seat (cause I had moved over next to my kid) ever complained and insisted they sit in the middle between us.

I believe all flights on the planes that are 3x3 block out the middle seat on the left side of the plane. We are flying MSP-MCO with the 3x3 seating. We could only book the right side of the plane if we wanted to sit 3 to a row. The middle seats on the left side won't become available until check in.......

I think they do this in case they switch their plane to a 3x2.. it is easier to make seat changes....

Yes, they did that with my flight going down; started out with 3x3, but the "B" seats were completely blocked out.

They have since increased it to a 3x3 (It is Thanksgiving weekend; I am surprised they didn't expect the plane to fill up).

Now from my end, I was very surprised to find out that my return flight no. changed. When I went into my confirmation, I had stilled been charged the $6.00 but there were three question marks (???) in the box with my seat assignment no. I looked and the seat was blocked out, so I assumed I still had that seat. It gnawed at me for a few days and I finally called and they confirmed I had NO seat assignment on the plane. Luckily, there was another window seat not too much farther down.

The explanation was that when they change flight nos., they roll over the information into a new "file" and my seat did not transfer over. Good thing I checked. The plane is almost completely full already and I am leaving MCO rather late that evening.
