If I purchase our Airtran flight for December at a specific rate and the price goes down, will they credit me?

I would call the airline and ask them directly, but it will probably be a no if your buying coach fares. They have sales pretty regularly - watch the rates and jump on them when they are on sale. With the gas prices out of control, who knows what the future cost of air travel will jump to.

Airtran doesn't credit you - if its a really huge change you can change your ticket but that is at a fee of 50 or 75 -- I can't remember which.

At any rate I find that Airtrans prices go down closer to departure date (not real close) but they aren't good to buy way far out on.

I generally only buy my airtran tickets 3-4 months in advance.

That would be a NO. Airtran will not adjust your price without a change fee of 50.00. We had our December airfare go down last December when all the other airlines dropped prices. Of course when I called Airtran I was told sorry. The change fee would make it more expensive than leaving it alone. So we had to sit with our nice expensive tickets while everyone else talked about changing with SW and getting credits. We are flying SW now because of their ease in changing tickets, cancelling, and rebooking. Can you tell I am still bitter about it. :sad2:

We've flown Airtran once before and really liked their service. Do you find that even though the prices decrease as the dates get closer that the available flight times become more restrictive with the lower prices?

I booked our flights this for this past June in early December last year. I kept an eye on the prices and they never went any lower, so if you find a price you like, I would go for it. I did see lower fares for less desirable times, but I am pretty picky about the times I want. By our trip, fares had climbed over $350 for almost 2 months prior.

We had a good experience on Airtran, and I will fly them again if the price is right.

Good to know. Yesterday the arrival flight is only $79 but the return is still $129. We'll watch it for a bit ut not wait too long to purchase.

I flew them in May, PIT/MCO. It was $247 in February. I dropped to $201 at the end of February for like 1 day, I bought it. It went back up to $247 and then quickly jumped to $600! The flight was still 2 months away! There are 2 flights each day in each direction, both the same price. The first morning flight soldout I guess because it wasn't even showing up on the reservation page.

If it is possible to change the length of you vacation I suggest that you check prices for a return flight 1 day earlier and 1 day later then you currently want. If I had known this last March when I booked our flights for May I could have stayed for 1 extra day and even with the extra night at POFQ I would have saved enough on our 2 airline tickets that an extra day would have ended up being cheaper.

Just a little tidbit...
If you do get a credit you will have to use it within one year of the original purchase date. Our flights dropped significantly last trip (bought too high, too soon) and even with the change fee we got a credit. I was very excited until I heard it had to be used in a couple months.

We had a good experience with Airtran and will fly them again, although they are the only direct flight from ROC! I wish Jet Blue would do a direct to FL.

Ok...I just bit the bullet and booked $99 each way. The only two options for return flights were times we really didn't want (7am or 8pm), but the costs for the more desirable times were too expensive IMO. SO, we'll just have to get up early.

Hopefully we'll be able to upgrade to Business class at the airport. We did that last time we flew airtran and the seats were SO much better than coach. The upgrade was inexpensive, too.

Ok...now another question...we have an infant (she'll be 8mo when we fly). I can just hold her on my lap, right? Do I need to let them know she'll be traveling with us if we didn't get her a seat?
