Airtran prices--up up up

Don't forget to reserve your seats for the extra $6 and check in online as soon as you can. We got bumped from our flight in December and that was not a fun situation. We haven't ever checked in online with them before and have never been bumped. That was the first and last time.

We were compensated with the "free flight" vouchers which are a total joke. Aside from the blackout dates, they are subject to availability which is beyond impossible. We took the $100 off each roundtrip instead because none of the dates available will match our reservations.

Good luck!

Better yet - Book your flights through Kayak.com and you don't have to pay the $6 fee to reserve your seat!

We booked Air Tran from Boston to Disney in May, we booked around December or so when they were first released. Direct flights for 4 round trip was about $800 ($89 a person+all the taxes and fees), not going to complain about that.:cool1:

I just now got done booking my flights online through AirTran as the return flights finally started showing the Web Special prices this morning. One thing, if you have a group of you going, it may be better to check the price for all of you, and then a lesser amount. Once they sell a certain amount of seats, the Web Special price went up for my searches. For our flight down, if I put 4 tickets, it said the price was $82, when I put 2 tickets, it said $64. So I purchased 2 tickets, then went back and purchased 2 more. The first 2 were at the $64, the second 2 at the $82. Coming back all 4 were $64.

After we selected seats (I just chose the $6 ones), with taxes, fees, and everything, I had a grand total of $681.60 for 4 of us roundtrip from Indianapolis to MCO. Will probably need to add $60, as I'm guessing we'll end up with 2 checked bags each way. Best thing for us, these are the flights we'll have:

going down: non-stop 7:00am - 9:12am
coming back: non-stop 8:50pm - 11:08pm

So we'll get pretty decent days on our arrival and departure days. Hopefully if we get a really early Crystal Palace breakfast on that last day our 3 y/o (at that time) will just sleep all the way back to Indy.

We will be flying from Chicago Midway. Sept 12 to 17.
I didn't know I paid extra for talking to a person!
I have so much to learn.

I don't know where you live, but have you considered flying out of Bloomington? Small airport but decent and clean. Free parking too.

I say watch daily-several times a day. We flew last Nov round trip from Indy to Tampa for $119 total per person(taxes included in that amount). When I first started watching, I couldn't fly for cheaper than $208 pp. So it definately paid off to watch and wait. Tampa cost more to fly into than Orlando, but we needed to go to Tampa for our cruise and the difference in a rental car wouldn't have made it worth going in to Orlando. So start checking Indy as well if thats an option!

I love flying out of BMI! It sounds like that would be a little too far away, though.

I second (or third) the suggestion to try Indy. My parents usually fly out of MDW, but we are closer to IND and generally get better deals than they do. The IND airport is easy to get to and parking is a breeze. It's my favorite airport after BMI.

I was just on the AirTran site looking at May prices. I did a search for your dates while I was there, You're looking at $94 each way per person. I would say $700 or so after taxes and fees for the 3 of you is a whole lot better than the 2k+ they quoted you. I would suggest going online.

I went in Sept of 2008 and booked my flight that Jan out of Midway. The only thing that I would suggest with booking online, is watch your email. They changed my flight 3 times before the date. I need a non stop flight, because I get extremely air sick. They kept switching me to flights with one stop. I kept calling and in the end, they only kept 1 nonstop flight out of the 4 original ones they had in Jan. Good luck and have a great trip.

keep checking the rates. We flew from DTW the week before Thanksgiving. Airtran was the cheapest and we went with the web deal. It was $64 one way with no stops. We left on a Wed. (11/18) and came back on Thanksgiving. I had played around with airfare for 4 months with a bunch of carriers and this was the cheapest. Good luck.

We fly out of Chicago every year to Orlando and believe it or not we found cheaper flights out of O'Hare on American and United as opposed to Midway. Not sure if you are close enough to get to O'Hare but maybe check that. We flew there in November on United for $620 for 3 people, non stop flying in before noon and out at 5.
