We are planning on flying out of Dfw in May. We are flying with 2 young girls. Any opinions of what airline would be the best for us? Also will we have to pay to pick our seats on American like we do on Airtran?

American doesn't charge for seat selection. If you buy your AirTran tickets by going through Kayak first (www.kayak.com) - there is no charge for seat selection. AirTran charges $15/pp for the first checked bag, and American charges $25/pp.

The only non-stop flight on Airtran is 7:00AM. If you want a later flight, you will have to change planes in Atlanta.

I'm checking AirTran and American out of DFW for our August trip and right now AirTran has better prices for us but not the best schedule. Only 2 non-stop flights a day/each way. Have you checked Southwest? It is flying out of Love Field instead of DFW but they often have good fares.
