We are flying Airtran on Thursday for the first time. Do I need to check-in for the flight the day before and print boarding passes? If I don't need to check-in the day before, can I just print my boarding passes at the airport? Also, how does this work for the flight home if I have to check-in online the day before?

Do you have your seat assignments? If you do, you can print them at the airport. If not, you better get online at 24 hours to get them.

You do not need to check in 24 hours before your flight, although it's nice to do this. Yes, you can print boarding passes at the airport. You can check in for your return via smartphone, computer, at your hotel, have a friend do it, etc.

If you don't have to check a bag, then it makes more sense to checkin and print boarding passes from home. Then by pass ticketing and head for security when you reach the airport.
