Airtran has Christmas dates open now

Just checked and today Airtran has the dates during Christmas break open.

Out of MSP, Dec 9-16 (Sat-Sat), it's $257 roundtrip.

Yeah I saw that. My return date of 22 Dec is $230 just for the return.

I wonder if it will go down?

Just checked for Dec. 6 - 12 and it's $228.60 down and $225.60 back. This is for 2 people. Maybe between now and then it'll go down. I'm not ready to book yet so I guess I'll wait a while longer.

I've been on watch for these dates to open up too because we had vouchers for 8 free flights on Air Tran (anyone remember the points from Wendy's they had last Dec? - we've been waiting to use those). We knew the Christmastime flights would be sky high (no pun intended ).

We just booked 4 free flights on Dec. 25 (going there) and 4 free flights on Jan. 4 (return date) from Milwaukee to Orlando with our A+ rewards vouchers (DH had 4 from the Wendy's promotion and I had 4 also, the max. you could get). So drinking lots of coke at Wendy's last year is now saving us about $2000!!!

We originally wanted to come home on Jan. 2 as the kids go back to school on Jan. 3, but they said Jan. 2-3 were black out dates, so we decided the kids can miss 2 days of school OR it would have been about $272/per person to fly home and we're a family of 4, so we'd be looking at well over $1100!!! We decided to stay 2 extra nights and enjoy WDW and maybe add a beach day or a Universal Day now.

Baltimore to Orlando and back, Dec.23rd & Dec.31st. Only coach available - $311 pp to MCO and $164 back to BWI. Seems outlandish for Airtran. Nothing was listed as of yesterday, and today there's only super-expensive seats. Doesn't make sense to me. Earlier December flights are $180 RT. Anybody care to offer a plausible explanation?

My guess is they think they will sell out at a high price, so they aren't offering lower prices. If they don't sell at the rate they expect, they will probably offer 'web deals' (listed in the first column of their prices) at some point.
