A while back I thought somebody posted on this board about how if Airtran changes your flight times they will give you a full refund if you don't approve it. Is this true if it is only by a few minutes?

Our flight has gone down about $40/each per way since we booked it. If they sent me a notice that they changed the time by a couple minutes, would I be able to cancel without a fee so I can book at the lower price?

Then I can get a ticket for DS instead of him being a lap baby and it will STILL cost me less than we were paying currently. This makes me happy because it will be much safer for him.

YES! Airtran is awesome about allowing you to change your flights.

We decided to stay an extra day in Florida and change the flights fo 13 of us the day before!

Good Luck!

I would bet if you call and tell them you are wanting to change it to 3 tickets they would do it. The flights do change a lot but, I have had really good customer service from them.

You actuallly have 2 issues to address with customer service at airtran. The first issue is the flight changes. If your flight time changes, normal procedure is to to allow you to change to any flight that day that will work better for you, if it's a major change. However, if it's just a few minutes from the original flight time, whay change?:confused3 But if the change really doesn't work, you should be able to get a full refund of your original airfare. Normally a refund is the last option offered, and it's usually given in instances where there are extreme changes in flight times example your 8 am flight is now an 11 am flight or your nonstop flight was changed to a connecting flight.

The second issue is the change in price of your tix/seat for your DS. In this case, just call and advise the agent of the change in cost. same exact flight, time etc. They will give you a credit, not a refund, for use on any Airtran flight, biz class upgrade etc for the purchaser of the tickets. You can then use the credit toward booking your DS a seat. As long as the cost is less than your credit, you will have a seat for him as well as any remaining money form the price difference as a credit. If the cost is more, you would pay the difference between the credit and the tix.

HTH :)

This is what I was going to suggest.:goodvibes

:goodvibesAnd another piece of advice....occasionally you'll get someone who's unfamiliar or unhelpful with giving credit for a price adjustment. Either end the call and try later with another rep or ask to speak to their supervisor. Nicely, of course. Some are more helpful about this than others. ;)

For our trip in 2008, we had a change in time about 15 min earlier. This made our lay over even longer. There happened to be an earlier flight out of Atlanta that would give us just under one hour to catch. When we called in we asked if our second leg could be moved up as we didn't think the kids could handle the long layover. The agent was great-no problems switching that.

I always play the airfare game for the cheapest prices. I noticed yesterday that a flight I paid $97 dropped to $62. Does that mean they would give me credit for the difference? I didn't think they would do that. Mind you that I bought 6 tix @ the $97 price.

No, Airtran will not credit you the difference unless they make a change to the flight times or inconvenience you in some way. To cancel or change the ticket, they charge a $75 fee and that is usually more than the price drop, therefore no savings. I believe Southwest is one of the few airlines that will honor a price drop on a non-refundable ticket.

I've only done this with SW but I thought I heard on the disboards that Airtran will give credits for a price drop too. I would think the non-refundable part is that you wouldn't get your $ back but credits to use toward future purchases, similar to 'store credit.'

Call and ask. The call is free; best case, they will indeed simply provide credit toward future travel for the difference. Worst case, they tell you there's a $75 charge per ticket because you bought nonrefundable/nonchangeable tickets - so you politely decline, thank the CSR, and hang up.

To the OP: call and ask about the credit possibility now and if said credits can be applied to a ticket for your son.

The problem with waiting for a schedule change is, fares change constantly. There's no guarantee the price will be at this level at the same time a potential - not guaranteed - schedule change is made.

This is incorrect. Airtran WILL give you credit if your flight price drops - the time of the flight does not have to change. I've done it myself, it's a quick call. I had my credit in less than 5 min. I've known others to be able to do this as well. Keep in mind, it's an Airtran credit to use towards a future Aitran flight (or upgrade, etc.) NOT a refund to your credit card.

So 1Prince3Princesses - go call! I will also confirm what another poster said - Airtran usually has great customer service - but if you get someone that seems to have no interest in helping you, call back & get someone different!

I don't think they have done price adjustments for a year or so. This is from their website. You can always try I guess. We tried last summer with no luck.

I have already purchased my tickets and have seen specials for a less expensive fare. Can I get the lower price?

A $75 fee per person applies to any change made after purchase, plus any applicable increase in airfare. Any changes to your reservation must occur at least 1 hour prior to departure.

If you wish to change your reservation, please contact our reservation center at 1-800-AIR-TRAN (1-800-247-8726). If you originally booked your reservation at AirTran.com, you may retrieve your booking and make your changes online.

I called & got a $19 per ticket credit in March for 3 tickets ($57 total) my friend got a $27 credit for her flight in April when the fares dropped. So they are doing this once again. Perhaps it depends on who answers the phone in customer service? The person I got was more than happy to process the credit.

i had a flight drop 20$ one time, and they said it would cost me 75$ to change the fare. And i fly often enough with them, that it wouldn't go to waste. I'm half way there to my first free flight.

You can use your credit to select your seat so you know you will be sitting by your kids or to pay for your bags.

Well, it appears you just have to call and ask. I have never had luck getting a price adjustment just because the price dropped. It's always worth a try, free call.

Airtran just changed their policy in the last few months and now gives you a credit if they change the price of your flight. So call and ask for the credit and then use the credit to book a seat for your son.

It had been their policy not to give price adjustments but it has been widely reported both her and on Flyertalk that they are once again giving credits.

Well, I am very pleased to hear this, last year my flights dropped $20 each ticket, so for my family of 4 that was $160, that would buy a round trip this year for 1 and part of another. I really could have used that, but I was told No, they don't credit price drops.
