AirTran Fare Changes in 24hrs.

I am checking fares from STL to MCO daily for my trip dates. I checked twice during the day yesterday, once in the morning and then again in the afternoon and the fare was $109 each way. Last night around 10pm I checked again and it was $86 each way. I checked again around 4am and it was still $86 each way. I know I should of booked right away when the fare was lower but I didn't think it would change so quickly. By 7am it was back up to $109. Is this common? I have seen fares change from one day to the next but to change twice in less than 24 hrs?

I also noticed that for travel dates from now until December 14th the fares are as low as $68 each way from STL to MCO. I wonder if they could get that low for January if I wait it out....

Air fares are constantly changing on all airlines.

If I saw a good fare for January, I'd buy it now. I just read an article yesterday warning that holiday air travel is going to be very high this year, and only going up closer to travel dates.

We are going in mid-January. Will that still be considered holiday airfare? It will be from a Wednesday to a Tuesday with MLK weekend being in the middle of our vacation dates. If it is goes back down I am jumping on it immediately.

AirTran ran a sale yesterday; I know 'cuz they sent me email. Didn't change my fare, but some of them were dirt cheap. That'd explain the rapid change in airfare that you saw.
