AirTran Airways, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines Co. Asheville (N.C.) Regional (AVL), Atlantic City International (ACY), Quad City (Moline, Ill.) International (MIL), and Newport News Williamsburg (Va.) International (PHF).

I will basically repost what I posted in another thread.

I have been so upset since I heard they were pulling out of Knoxville, TN. We flew US Air one time before Airtran, but were VERY disappointed overall in US Air because of delays. We could have driven home faster than our return flight with all the delays and we are talking beautiful September weather. The delay for our DW arrival day the plane arrived on time and we sat and watched the plane outside the airport window for almost 3 hours. I don't know what we'll do now ....so sad :(

Very sorry to hear for those AirTran customers. We love AirTran and hopefully they keep flying out of MSP!

Don't forget Dallas is the first city they are pulling out of. No more Air Tran flights after Nov 21st (just a few days from now). They will sure be missed. Air fare out of Dallas has skyrocketed in just the last few months for dates after Nov 21st. Last May I paid $188.00 for airfare compared to the $460.00 it's been running this year. Last Dec I paid about $150.00 compared to the $277.00 I paid for my Nov 21st-Dec 4th trip this year and I was lucky to catch it at $277.00. It had been running over $400.00, until American ran a sale for a few days several months ago. I grabbed it at $277.00 and it's been running over $400.00 ever since.

I feel the same way. We fly Airtran every time we go to Florida...just booked Airtran for our March trip and for our May cruise trip.

I am devastated!!! We have flown many times out of Bloomington Normal and planned on that for next summer. I've been out of the loop because I just returned to work after a maternity leave and haven't priced other flights. This is a major bummer for me.

I don't even know who else flies nonstop for us that is near us. I quickly checked to see about AirTran out of Moline and they are pulling out of Moline/Quad Cities, too. :(

Regarding Dulles airport, I'm not surprised. With United and Jetblue both with non-stop flights to MCO, there's alot of competition. I stopped flying Airtran when they started charging for bags. However, if AT leaves Dulles and SW stays, I sure hope they add some non-stop SW flights to MCO. There use to be some non-stop flights, but they stopped so I did too. I use to fly SW to MCO out of Dulles too. So now I can hope that with AT gone, the flights on SW out of Dulles will grow. Right now it's so small at Dulles. There is only 2 counters on the back side of the terminal for checkin. I'm still extremely happy with Jetblue for the past few years, but it's nice to have options too. Heck I've been flying out of Dulles for so long now, I've seen airlines come and go....seems like yesterday I was flying SONG, TED, and FlyI....:rolleyes1

Since Southwest only recently came into the MSP area, they probably will continue to fly out of MSP.
Airtran will cease to exist soon, once they get totally absorbed by SW. I will be sad to see that happen - we like Airtran.
SW said they would be cheaper, but has been higher for every flight out of MSP that we have checked on since they came here (even considering they don’t charge for bags and seat assignments and the other airlines do).

We have flown Airtran many times, but on our last flight from MCO to Rochester, NY, we ran into a major issue. 5 of us flying, and they only had seats for 4 of us! Who did they leave out? AN EIGHT YEAR OLD!! When they called for volunteers, my DH said he would give up his seat for the little guy, but they said the 8 year old wasn't next in line for a seat! We all ended up staying until the next day, and they put us up in a hotel, but it may have put us off Airtran for a while.

Has anybody seen/heard a yay or nay on GRR(grand Rapids, MI)

Sorry to hear this news, for some of you with limited options, it can be so tough. (I could fly from the NY airports, Newark NJ, or Philadelphia, we are quite lucky that way).

We rarely fly to Orlando from Newark, NJ, fares are higher there, and I stopped using AC when Spirit's fees became too outrageous. I did not even realize AirTran flew out of AC.

We LOVED Delta SONG, too bad it folded back into Delta.

We usually use SW now out of Philadelphia, for Orlando, California trips, NC, and Las Vegas.....

Sorry to hear they are pulling out of Newport News, VA (PHF)
This was really easy way to get to Williamsburg, VA area. Super cheap flights from Boston to Newport News. No longer now.

Southwest does fly to Norfolk, VA, but then you have to worry about the traffic.
