Airtran Coach in May

Do air lines post dates, then hold back seats? Airtran recently posted dates for early May. I've been watching them for about two weeks now. Last week the 7AM flight I'm interested stopped showing coach seats and now only shows business class seats available. I find it hard to beleive a Wednesday 7AM flight 6 monts from now is sold out. Checking several other days near the one I'm interested in they all show the the 7AM flight sold out of coach.

To add confusion, Expedia and Orbitz do not show ANY Airtran flights, direct or non direct for the week I'm considering.

Not being a freguent flyer I don't know what to make of this. Airtran games?

I've seen them do it before [hold seats back]. I know I'm repeating myself, but I usually find the best fares from them at 90-60 days out.

And they must have been doing just that (holding back seats). This morning, business class only. This afternoon, coach and business class. I like the advice on the 60-90 day window as I think I can do better than $102 each leg.

Thanks

NjRon,

Airfare costs are dropping. I'm always watching for flights in May, and US Airways has dramatically reduced their rates from last week's rates. A flight Philly-Orlando (and return) last week cost $402.90 and this week it costs $228.90. Hang in there, I think prices will continue to drop.

I find myself getting excited for you!!! I hope you find the fares you're waiting for. Looks like it's a good possibility.

Try SideStep.com for Airtran--they show those flights plus Southwest and JetBlue. Good luck!

Remember, in a market where Southwest flies out of, competing airlines will hold back some seats and then release them when Southwest releases their seats for those dates, they lower their prices to match Southwest so they can compete.
